On This Day: A Medical Breakthrough That Changed the World! 💉 On March 14, 1942, 33-year-old Anne Miller, lay in a hospital in Connecticut with a raging fever and after having been sick for weeks, became the first patient to receive penicillin treatment - a monumental event that ushered in the antibiotic era. 🥼 Thanks to Alexander Fleming’s discovery of penicillin in 1928 - and the relentless efforts of developing it for medical use - millions of lives have been saved from bacterial infections that were once deadly. Since then, medicine has leaped forward in ways Fleming could have only imagined. From advanced antibiotics to precision medicine, AI-driven diagnostics, and revolutionary treatments for diseases once thought incurable, we continue to push the boundaries of what’s possible. Here's to the past, present, and future of medical innovation! 🔬 #OnThisDay #Penicillin #MedicalBreakthroughs #AlexanderFleming #Antibiotics #HealthcareInnovation #ScienceSavesLives

  • 🔬 Day 5 - British Science Week: A Week in the Life of Our Lab Team 🔬 Today in our lab, our technicians are running results using the COVID-19 BioCard™ - our very own breakthrough test, developed at the peak of the pandemic. This was the first and only test designed to measure an individual’s unique level of COVID-19 antibodies, helping people understand their immunity with >99.5% accuracy. While COVID-19 may not be as prevalent today, for some, it remains just as impactful. Knowing your antibody levels can help you decide whether a vaccine or booster is right for you. 🔍 Science makes progress, and so do we. #ScienceWeek #COVID19 #ImmunityTesting #Innovation #BritishScienceWeek #BioDiagnostics #Diagnostics #BioCard

  • World Sleep Day is an annual event that aims to raise awareness about the critical role sleep plays in our overall health and well-being. 🌙 Getting enough quality sleep each night is essential for both our physical and mental health. During sleep, our bodies have the opportunity to repair and regenerate tissues, regulate hormones, consolidate memories, and recharge for the next day. Chronic sleep deprivation can lead to a host of negative health consequences, including weakened immunity, increased risk of obesity, diabetes, cardiovascular disease, and even depression and anxiety disorders. 💤 Studies have shown that adults need 7-9 hours of sleep per night for optimal functioning, yet many people regularly fall short of this. Are you getting the sleep you need? What keeps you up at night? 🛌🏻 #WorldSleepDay #Health #Sleep

  • 🔬 Day 4 - British Science Week: A Week in the Life of Our Lab Team 🔬 Today, our lab technicians are running customer samples using the ALEX² by MADx – Macro Array Diagnostics GmbH, a multiplex allergy test that can analyse nearly 300 allergens from a single blood sample. Understanding allergies can be complex, especially when symptoms like runny nose, itchy eyes, or unexplained reactions overlap with various triggers. The ALEX² provides a detailed sensitisation profile by measuring both total IgE (tIgE) and specific IgE (sIgE), helping to identify potential allergens with high accuracy. Science continues to shape the way we approach diagnostics, and today’s testing highlights just one of the many ways laboratory innovation supports better health insights. #ScienceWeek #BritishScienceWeek #AllergyTesting #LabScience #Diagnostics #BioDiagnostics
