About us

British Cycling is the national governing body for cycling as recognised by the UCI – the international federation for the sport. Based in Manchester at the National Cycling Centre, British Cycling works across all levels and six disciplines of the sport (BMX, Mountain Bike, Cyclo-Cross, Road, Track and Cycle Speedway), from providing the support and encouragement people need to get riding their bikes for the first time, to being home to the hugely successful Great Britain Cycling Team. Continued success at the highest level is inspiring a boom in participation across the nation. There have never been more opportunities to ride a bike, be it for fun or sport, and British Cycling is at the heart of this growth. British Cycling also works hard to represent cyclists’ interests at all levels, including campaigning on important issues including road safety. As a membership organisation, British Cycling provides a suite of benefits and support to its members who currently number 130,000. All membership revenue is invested back into cycling.

In advance of Spring Statement on Wednesday 26 March, members of the Sport and Recreation Alliance, sector partners and organisations from across the sport, recreation, and physical activity space have come together to highlight the potential significant adverse impacts of the Government’s proposed changes to health and disability benefits and employment support – set out in Pathways to Work: Reforming Benefits and Support Green Paper – on disabled people and participation in sport, recreation and physical activity. The changes risk creating even greater barriers for disabled people to access the physical and mental health benefits of an active lifestyle and undermining progress made by Sport England’s Uniting the Movement strategy in tackling inactivity and social isolation among disabled people. As organisations – and a sector more broadly – we remain committed to working with the Government to discuss and help address the issues highlighted, and drive positive change. • Show me the way to Aberystwyth! 👀 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿 We’re excited to announce a new partnership with the Llywodraeth Cymru / Welsh Government, that will see Wales host a selection of British Cycling’s major events over the next three years - starting with the 2025 Lloyds National Road Championships across the beautiful county of Ceredigion! Jonathan Day, Managing Director for British Cycling Events, said: “Wales has been a huge supporter of hosting major cycling events, so reaching this agreement with the Welsh Government is a huge milestone in securing host venues for the coveted National Road Championships for the next three years. The popularity of this event among riders and fans continues to grow, so it is fantastic to be working with partners in Wales where I am sure it will be a huge success." This year's Lloyds National Road Championships will take place on Thursday 26th (time-trial), Friday 27th (circuit race) and Sunday 29th (road race) June. #sportspartnerships #majorevents #cycling

  • A Tour de First! 🇬🇧 🟡 In 2027 we welcome the world’s most famous cycle races to Grande-Bretagne for a Grand Départ like no other. Both the Tour de France and the Tour de France Femmes avec Zwift pelotons begin their journeys on the same foreign land for the first time ever! 🚴🏻♀️ 🚴♂️ The yellow jerseys will bring with them a transformational social impact programme to inspire cyclists, tackle health inequalities and promote sustainability. 35-time Tour de France stage winner, Sir Mark Cavendish, said: “I don’t think we can comprehend what a Grand Départ of the Tour de France and the Tour de France Femmes avec Zwift will be like from here. It’ll be bigger than we can even imagine. It’s only going to inspire; if anyone sees a bike race of that magnitude, they surely can’t help but want to go out and ride a bike.” Lizzie Deignan, who has raced two editions of the Tour de France Femmes avec Zwift, added: “This is incredibly exciting news that the Grand Départs are coming to the UK. Even better that it will be the first time that both the Tour de France and the Tour de France Femmes avec Zwift Grand Départs will happen in the same country - and it will be here!” Scottish Cycling | Beicio Cymru | A.S.O. - Amaury Sport Organisation

  • We’re British Cycling and this is our story… 🚴🏻♀️ 🚴♂️   Today we’re pleased to start a new chapter for the sport in this country as we launch our brand-new strategy.     Based around three key priorities - to support and grow the sport, to lead on the world stage and to drive social impact - we believe our strategy will make the bike a vehicle for long-lasting health, societal and economic benefits.    British Cycling CEO Jon Dutton OBE says:      "Cycling has the power to transform lives, yet too many people face stubborn barriers to getting on a bike. Whether for transport, leisure, or sport, everyone should have the opportunity to ride - regardless of their background or circumstances.    “This is about more than sport. It’s about tackling the UK’s health, wealth, and social inequalities head-on, ensuring that cycling is a force for good in every community."       Read more – including our full strategy – here: bit.ly/43yh33t #cycling #strategy #sportbusiness
