Championing Event Professionals worldwide to gain recognition and skills development supported by a body of knowledge

About us

The Institute of Event Management is the professional body for all those who create and deliver opportunities for people to participate in an event to meet audience and stakeholder needs to achieve economic, professional, social or community objectives. Routes to recognition are via accreditation of an existing qualification, experience [taking account of work roles and years of service] or on the job training eg apprenticeship. The Institute will provide access to a body of knowledge and opportunities for continuing professional development. An Events Sector matrix has been prepared to provide information on the scale and scope of the sector to enable a better understanding for all who may have to organise events. The Institute will be an important resource of information on all aspects of events.

UKEVENTS announces new Executive Committee to strengthen industry advocacy UKEVENTS has confirmed its new Executive Committee following the February Full Partners Meeting, with a clear focus on strengthening engagement with policymakers and capitalising on new relationships forged at the recent Houses of Parliament exhibition. The newly appointed committee will lead UKEVENTS’ efforts to drive recognition of the UK events industry’s £61.6 billion contribution to the economy and ensure its role is firmly embedded in government policy discussions. With a renewed emphasis on advocacy and strategy, the committee aims to build on recent momentum and push for meaningful action that supports growth across the sector. The agreed roles for the new Executive Committee are: Chair: Glenn Bowdin Immediate Past-Chair: Chris Skeith OBE Vice-Chair – Treasurer: Tom Clements Vice-Chair – Membership Secretary: Susan Tanner Vice-Chair – Policy/Strategy Lead: Andrew Harrison Vice-Chair – Lead Advocacy and Government Relations: David Tremmil Advocacy and Government Relations Co-Lead: Michael Hirst OBE Communications Lead: Martin Fullard Glenn Bowdin, Chair of UKEVENTS, commented: “The UK events industry plays a critical role in driving economic growth, supporting a vast supply chain, and creating opportunities across multiple sectors. However, what became evident from our recent engagement with MPs is that many are still unaware of just how significant our industry is. “This new Executive Committee is well-positioned to change that. We are committed to deepening our relationships with government, ensuring events are recognised as a key economic enabler, and fostering an environment where policymakers proactively engage with our industry to achieve their objectives. Our next steps will focus on sustained advocacy and strategic engagement, ensuring that the momentum we’ve built translates into tangible policy progress.” UKEVENTS will continue to work closely with industry stakeholders, government representatives, and policymakers to ensure the UK events sector is supported and positioned for long-term growth. https://lnkd.in/eNRSjJ8g #ukevents #events #industry #advocacy #

The Institute of Event Management (IEM) is delighted to announce that Tim Owen LVO FRSA RIBA FIEM is its new Executive Board Chair, in succession to Susan J Spibey FRSA.   Tim became a Director and Founding Fellow of the IEM in January 2022. He is the founder of Major Impact City Events consultancy and has been part of the UK’s national #eventplanning for more than three decades. He has chaired Licensing, Operational and Safety Planning Groups for many of the most memorable large-scale events in London, including Millennium Eve, Elizabeth II's Diamond Jubilee and the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games.   “I’m fortunate to have worked with most parts of the UK events industry during my career,” says Tim.    “Although much of my own work has focused on the London ‘annual schedule’ and one-off occasions, it shouldn’t be just for these large-scale events that our sector is known.   “The skills, experience and process management required are equally applicable to local community events, which are no less rigorous or demanding.   “The IEM has a critical role to play for all parts of the industry. We are champions of #eventmanagers everywhere and provide a route to #professionalrecognition both for individuals and for #highereducation courses. I want to continue our mission to show that ‘making things happen’ is not magic, but the result of talented and dedicated practitioners deploying a wide range of transferrable skills.”   “Susan founded the IEM in 2012 and is one of the most important and influential figures in the #eventsindustry. I look forward to continuing her brilliant work and am thrilled she has chosen to remain on our Executive Board.” Andrew Shields FRSA Chris Pateman Candice Kass Diane Earles Tim Nichol #majorevents #UKevents

🌍 Calling all Corporate Events Professionals! 🌍 I’m currently in my final year studying Events Management at Cardiff Met and am conducting my dissertation on a topic I’m truly passionate about: “What is the way forward for the Corporate Events industry in being more socially sustainable?” As part of my research, I’m seeking to interview industry professionals to gain insights into your experiences, challenges, and ideas for driving social sustainability in the sector. Whether you're part of an event organisation team or have attended business events, your perspective would be incredibly valuable to my study. The interviews will be semi-structured, informal, and flexible to your schedule. They’re a great opportunity to reflect on the future of the industry and share your expertise. If this sounds like something you'd be interested in, please drop me a message or comment below, and I’ll be in touch! Thank you in advance for your time and support—I’m excited to learn from you all and help spark conversations about sustainability in corporate events. #Sustainability #CorporateEvents #DissertationResearch #SocialSustainability #EventsManagement
