During the delivery phase of the East Coast Digital Programme (ECDP), collaborating on business change activities allows us to share and develop best practices, align a sector-wide approach, and understand how to implement change to achieve sustainable and beneficial outcomes. Our recent interactive 'Day in the Life' workshops provided valuable insights and identified key outputs to support the further development of training materials for roles impacted by the introduction of the European Train Control System (ETCS) in the Freight Sector. Yesterday, we had the pleasure of hosting an Applied Learning Workshop in partnership with East Coast Digital Programme and operators from the On Track Machine sector. Together, we explored collective learning and experiences from the Network Change process which is the formal framework for implementing changes to the railway. As part of business change best practices, the group reflected on past experiences, capturing valuable insights to support both current and future rail transformation programmes. Key themes from our discussions included Process Improvement , Learning and Collaboration and Stakeholder Engagement. As part of our commitment to developing technical knowledge and experience within our PMO, members of our project team visited DB Cargo’s ERTMS Training Facilities in Doncaster last week.   The visit included hands-on experience with Ultra Lite Simulators and the full Class 66 Cab Simulator, offering valuable insight into train control and operational procedures. The scenario development session truly brought the work we do in the sector to life. Undertaking these Simulation Sessions, facilitated by DB Cargo’s experienced instructors, strengthened our knowledge of ERTMS and its practical implementation.   We are very grateful to DB Cargo (UK) Limited and their ERTMS Project Team for inviting us to experience their excellent training facility and sharing their expertise with us. #ERTMS #eastcoastdigitalprogramme #collaboration #team #thankyou #simulation #DBcargo

Last week, Ollie Piggott, Programme Dependencies Manager here at KRS was invited to the VolkerRail Ltd depot at Frodingham to meet with some of their ETCS Project Team including Casper Kennedy Carr, Business Change Manager, Lindsay McManus, ETCS Systems and Change Analyst and Liam McNulty BEng (Hons) (Open) EngTech MIET, ETCS Engineer. Ollie had the opportunity to talk with them around their plans and dependencies and it was an insightful, engaging and productive visit. A big thank you to the ETCS project team and to also the depot team for showing Ollie around and providing a great insight into what it takes to run an OTM operation. We’d like to welcome Judith Urmston, née Calvert to the team as a Senior Consultant.    Judith is in her 25th year in the rail industry. Having started her career with Railtrack in 2001 in the Asset Management team in the North West & Central region, she moved on to performance analysis of the Royal Mail contract for the national Railtrack Freight directorate. In 2004, Judith entered the passenger operator world of TransPennine Express, working for a spell in Performance before spending 15 happy years in the Engineering department as Site Engineer and then Performance Engineer for all their fleets. A final internal transfer into the Major Projects directorate for three years as TPE's Traffic Management Business Change Manager on ECDP, sharing the Traffic Management perspective with TRU, TriLink and HS2 when required so Judith brings a wealth of rail industry experience to the programmes and projects at KRS. We had the pleasure of hosting the On-Track-Machine (OTM) Business Change monthly meeting at our offices in Sheffield yesterday. It was fantastic to welcome the OTM Business Change community, with whom we collaborate closely on the East Coast Digital Programme (ECDP). We were also privileged to have Andrew Thexton, Head of Operational Design and Delivery at Network Rail, join as our guest for a really interesting update and debate. The session provided a valuable opportunity to discuss business change plans for 2025. As always, it was an engaging and interactive day, fuelled by insightful discussions and a shared commitment to progress.
