The National Saturday Club works to inspire 13-16 year olds through creative learning and education.
About us
The National Saturday Club enables 13–16 years olds from across the UK to discover their strengths and develop new skills by attending free Saturday Clubs at their local college, university or cultural institution. Attended by Club members across the academic year and offered in a range of subject areas – Art&Design, Science&Engineering, Fashion&Business or Writing&Talking – Saturday Club programmes are devised by professional tutors, assisted by students. As part of their annual programme, Club members also attend Masterclasses with leading industry professionals in their subject area, take part in a cultural visit to London, and show their work at a major public exhibition held at Somerset House, London. The Saturday Club Trust is an independent charity set up in 2016 to take over the development of the National Saturday Club from The Sorrell Foundation, which launched the National Art&Design Saturday Club in 2009. The Sorrell Foundation was co-founded as an educational charity in 1999 by Sir John Sorrell CBE and Lady Sorrell OBE, with the aim of inspiring creativity in young people and improving quality of life through good design.

Last Saturday, me and the PriestmanGoode team had the best time working with the National Saturday Club for Science & Engineering at the The University of Salford. We were so impressed by the young people's focus, creative energy and knowledge of the world resulting in mobility concepts to face future climate challenges. If only we lived nearer, we'd be back for more tomorrow! Thank you to my colleagues Guy Genney Antonio Garnet Wan Hanna Sparks Corín McCarthy Riess Fernandes and @Lizzie Sinden for leading such a great workshop and to Lucy Kennedy Toria Brook-Hill and Adobera Ejikeme for inviting us to take part along with Charlotte and Vicky who supported the workshop in Salford. #designingthefuture

We were thrilled to host a Masterclass with Burberry this Saturday for the Club members at the London College of Fashion, University of the Arts London Fashion&Business Saturday Club! Club Members took part in an inspiring mood-boarding session led by the Burberry Textile Design team and had the incredible opportunity to engage in a Q&A, gaining valuable insights into the fashion industry. A huge thank you to the Burberry Textile Design team Thomas Brindley, Inés Sánchez-Cano and AJ Weir - as well as the British Fashion Council for their continued support!
On Saturday, we hosted our first masterclass in partnership with the British Fashion Council and non-profit organisation, National Saturday Club. The masterclass was hosted by our Textile Design team at London College of Fashion, University of the Arts London for eighteen of the Fashion&Business Saturday Club members. It explored the day-to-day responsibilities of a Textile Designer as well as their role in the wider creative process at a global luxury brand. To replicate the textile design process, the young people were set a group-based activity where they had to work collaboratively and create a mood board exploring a set theme, before presenting their interpretation of the concept back to the wider group. The masterclasses help to ensure that young people are better informed about the choices that exist for further education and rewarding careers and emboldens them to become the next generation of innovators and imaginative thinkers. The Fashion & Business Saturday Club at Manchester Fashion Institute is one of five clubs at The Manchester Metropolitan University that offer 13–16-year-olds opportunity to come onto our amazing campus on Saturday mornings to have fun, meet new friends and explore exciting subjects, such as Fashion and Business! A proud part of the National Saturday Club, we have been running the fashion club for over 10 years with support from the British Fashion Council. Dr Benjamin Wild and I spent a fun morning with the group this weekend, exploring the emotional connections we have with our clothes and the stories that they tell. Club members generously shared narratives of their favourite clothes and accessories using drawing and storytelling methods. #FashionNarratives Thanks to Gayle Fenny for inviting us, and to club tutors Romani Alexander and Rhea Menon, the student facilitators and all the talented club members. https://saturday-club.org/

To kickstart the Masterclass season, Club members from the Art&Design and Fashion&Business Clubs at Falmouth University and Arts University Plymouth attended an incredible Speedo Masterclass hosted by Pentland Brands 🩱 The Masterclass focused on creating a Hawaii-inspired swimsuit pattern. Using bright colours like yellow, orange, pink, and deep blue, Club members had 45 minutes to bring their ideas to life on paper-covered walls. They collaborated, enhancing each other’s designs to create a vibrant collection ✨ Click the link to read more about the Masterclass and view more photos: https://lnkd.in/eaBvdptY

Another weekend, another session with London Metropolitan University's National Saturday Club. This week we got students to write articles and edit them, ahead of creating a Saturday Club newspaper. It was incredibly heartwarming to see all of them engaged and asking so many questions. A massive thanks to Priya Khambhaita and Liz Routhorn for letting me host the past two sessions. This is truly the community spirit at the institution I have always adored. I'm unbelievably fortunate to be part of it.
