Niantic’s Peridot Beyond releases major update including multiplayer AR for Snap’s outdoor-friendly AR glasses, Spectacles Hi everyone, At Niantic, we’ve long been believers of building experiences at the cutting-edge of technology. Technology that not only brings us closer to the world around us, but also to the people that inhabit that world. Six months ago, we took another meaningful step towards that vision, reimagining the Peridot experience for the world's first glimpse of true outdoor-friendly AR glasses, Snap’s Spectacles. The amazing thing about Spectacles is that they align so well with Niantic’s mission of getting people outdoors, more deeply connecting to their world, feeling a little bit healthier during their day, and meeting new people. That’s why today we’re so excited to reveal a couple of major updates to the Peridot Beyond experience that further support this mission. First, we’re leveraging Spectacles Sync Kit to make Peridot Beyond a shared multiplayer experience with others. Now you and your friends can go on outdoor walks together and pet, play, and interact with each other's Dots, amplifying the magic of having a virtual pet. Next, we’ve integrated Spectacles Mobile Kit to connect the experience to our popular Peridot mobile game – meaning that as you make progress in Peridot Beyond, you’ll also be earning rewards in the mobile game. Lastly, we’ve made a variety of optimizations and improvements across other Peridot Beyond features to make them even more fun and engaging. Even with these updates, we’re barely scratching the surface of what these and other new hardwares can bring to life. Every single day, we’re inching closer and closer to this next generation of computing – it’s within our grasp and will quite literally transform the way we interact with one another and how we adventure throughout our world. Imagine a world in which your glasses (and Dots) have a deep understanding of who you are as a person, what you like (and don’t), and a contextual understanding of the environment around you. Could we reimagine the way that people navigate throughout the world? Could we nudge people to rediscover and learn more about their neighborhoods? Could we inject more joy into a person’s day? We’ve spent years connecting the bits to the atoms. We’re going to keep dreaming up the magic to embrace this exciting future with open arms – and we look forward to bringing you along for the journey. –Asim Ahmed, Global Product Marketing Lead of Peridot franchise #gaming #playperidot #niantic #nianticlabs #augmentedreality #AR #mixedreality #WebAR #artificialintelligence #AI #generativeai #genai #cozygames #indiegames #metaquest3 #applevisionpro #snapspectacles #spatialcomputing #meta #snap #orion #spectacles Niantic, Inc. We’ll be demoing these capabilities at Niantic’s GDC Executive Reception on March 18th (4–7 PM). 👇 Check out the blog to learn more about our work with Niantic and how businesses are integrating it into their workflows. https://lnkd.in/e9hBt9yD

  • Often, the scenes we discover on the INTO THE SCANIVERSE map hold a deeper story. This 3D scan, in particular, captures the lush haven of Elizabeth Street Garden—along with the passionate call to preserve it. (Captured by Michael Rubloff at Radiance Fields.) “Our goal is really to get a large collection of high-quality scans that folks can visit around the world,” says Brian McClendon, senior vice president of engineering at Niantic, Inc. “You can walk up to it and look up at it, and you get a sense of scale of these objects that sometimes photos don’t do justice.” The article via Fast Company continues: 'Making the scans, created using a mathematical modeling technique called the Gaussian splat, available through virtual reality will hopefully also incentivize more users to go out and scan and share the world around them, similar to how the rise of Instagram motivated people to take and share photos, he says. The scanning process generally takes only a few minutes, and users can view their own scans on their phones or Quest headsets before deciding whether to share them to the public map.' https://lnkd.in/gGZZTRNB #3DGS #3DGaussianSplatting #3DGaussianSplats #3DGaussianSplat #Splat #IntoTheScaniverse

Today marks the closing of one chapter and the opening of a new one for Niantic. We just announced that Scopely will be acquiring our games business, including Pokémon GO, Pikmin Bloom, and Monster Hunter Now. And we’re spinning out a new geospatial AI company, Niantic Spatial Inc. We founded Niantic 10 years ago to inspire people to explore the world, together, by overlaying it with digital experiences. I’m grateful to everyone who joined us on this journey, and I’m proud that players have explored 30+ billion miles and made over a billion friend connections in our games. Every week we hear inspiring stories of people finding lifelong partners, making exercise more fun, or discovering a new sense of belonging. I’m confident our games will thrive with Scopely. I've often talked about building “forever games,” and I believe they will continue to be just that. To our players: thank you. I’m also incredibly excited about what’s next with Niantic Spatial. Why? Because we’re in the midst of seismic changes in technology, with AI evolving rapidly. Existing maps were built for people to read and navigate but now there is a need for a new kind of map that makes the world intelligible for machines, for everything from smart glasses to humanoid robots, so they can understand and navigate the physical world. Today's LLMs represent the first step towards a future where a variety of expert models collaborate to reason and understand complex problems, and many of those problems will require deep and accurate knowledge of the physical world. Niantic is building the models that will help AI move beyond the screen and into the real world. With $250M in funding, some of the world's best geospatial AI talent, access to proprietary data, a strong customer pipeline, and a rapid product cycle, I believe Niantic Spatial is poised to succeed and, like the games that gave birth to it, to make its own positive impact on the world. Stay tuned for more info. jh

  • Today, we’re announcing changes at Niantic that will set us on a bold new course. First, for Niantic Inc., we have reached an agreement for Scopely, a world leader in mobile games, to acquire Pokémon GO, Pikmin Bloom and Monster Hunter Now, and the incredible teams working on these experiences. Second, we are spinning off our pioneering geospatial AI business into a new company, Niantic Spatial Inc., enabling it to accelerate and scale even more rapidly. Led by John Hanke, Niantic Spatial will be funded with $250 million of capital. Niantic Spatial’s goal is to lead the future of geospatial AI by building spatial intelligence that helps people better understand, navigate, and engage with the physical world. Last year, we launched the Niantic Spatial Platform, designed for a diverse range of industry applications. And we’re now developing a Large Geospatial Model – a world model powered by large-scale machine learning that enables people and machines to understand and navigate the physical world. Niantic Spatial will also continue to own and operate our other real-world AR games, Ingress Prime and Peridot, as best-in-class reference applications of the geospatial platform.
