Exclusive: British green logistics startup Delivery Mates completes nearly 3 million sustainable deliveries in 2024. This has saved nearly 1.2 million grams of NOX emissions and 17,000 grams of PM2.5. “Everybody wants to talk about carbon,” COO Kevin Savage says. “But for me, PM2.5 is one of the least spoken about emissions when it comes to cleaning up the air in cities. This is a particulate that’s causing breathing difficulties for our children and vulnerable people, getting into their lungs and contributing to asthma. “The 17,000 grams of PM2.5 is a significant amount of pollution we have taken off the roads. I’m proud of this because this particulate is having a serious health impact on the population of urban areas that we don’t speak about often enough.” Read more: https://lnkd.in/eU5d-3j4

In #11 of Zag’s Radar series, Michael Klinker, Co-Founder and CTO of REGENT, tells us about making waves with the Viceroy seaglider, from recent human-crewed trials to the latest pre-certification milestone. REGENT announced today that it has submitted its Design Basis Agreement (DBA) for the Viceroy seaglider to the U.S. Coast Guard. Approval, expected by mid-year, will advance the maritime certification process, setting the regulatory framework for seagliders as small passenger vessels. “We’re aiming for foiling mode this spring and first flight by mid-year. The process is float, foil, fly. We’re targeting late 2026 to early 2027 for first customer deliveries of the Viceroy model.” #AAM #ZagAir Read more: https://lnkd.in/eT_q-ZMT

Bright green Lime bikes have become a fixture of London streets, but where do they go when they need repairs? Zag Daily went behind the scenes at Lime’s Tottenham warehouse, the largest of its kind in Europe, where hundreds of bikes are serviced and put back in circulation every day. Lime VP Andrew Savage, visiting from Vermont, told Zag Daily how Lime’s sustainability mission has created a profitable business model. “The car-centric mindset is shifting. It’s becoming cool to hop on two wheels instead of four. Sustainability doesn’t always have to be serious or feel like a sacrifice. At its best, it improves people’s lives, and that’s exactly what micromobility does,” Savage told Zag Daily. Read more: https://lnkd.in/eRghczHY

Caroline Samponaro spent 12 years advocating for sustainable transport in New York City. As co-founder of the national movement Families for Safe Streets, she played an instrumental role in lowering the NYC speed limit from 30 mph to 25 mph. Today, Caroline is Vice President and Head of External Affairs at Lyft Urban Solutions (formerly PBSC + Lyft Bikes & Scooters) where she works with policymakers to integrate bike share systems into urban planning. In #27 of Zag’s Women Making Moves series, Caroline bridges her road safety and sustainable transport advocacy work to explain why bike share is critical to making cities safer for all road users. “It’s all tied into the idea of safety of numbers: as the rate of bike riding grows, the rate of crashes for all road users goes down. The presence of more bikes and higher ridership contributes to a safer environment for everyone, whether you’re walking, driving or biking, and bike share is a big part of that.” Read more: https://lnkd.in/etyMaJYN

To accelerate the adoption of autonomous technology in industrial settings, Oxa is collaborating with NVIDIA to leverage its Cosmos World Foundation Models. “Our vision is to build software that enables any vehicle to be self-driving, anywhere, at any time. But we’re not trying to tackle this all at once. We’re focused on the most commercially viable AV sectors and where the world needs autonomy most, today,” Gavin Jackson, CEO of Oxa, told Zag Daily. #AAM #ZagAir Read more: https://lnkd.in/dP-TndV9

Shared mobility platform Joyride launches its first proprietary IoT device to power light electric vehicles with smart connectivity. Taking the form of a black box, Joyride’s hardware-software solution called ‘Neon’ connects lightweight vehicles directly to Joyride’s software platform without a complex setup process. “Being a software platform for 10+ years, we know exactly where IoTs have fallen short for LEVs. Neon fills the void as it relates to time spent on setup (now you get one integrated solution that's pre-synced with software rather than fragmentation), cost, speed, accuracy, support and global reach,” Joyride Founder Vince Cifani told Zag Daily. Hundreds of families will cycle through London this weekend in protest of SUVs. Part of the Kidical Mass movement, the ride aims to highlight the danger that SUVs pose to cyclists and pedestrians. It comes in response to research that found that pedestrians and cyclists are 30% more likely to be killed if hit by a car with a bonnet that’s 10cm higher than average. “We know that SUVs are getting bigger and heavier every year, and that children hit by larger cars when walking and cycling are far less likely to survive. As the parent of a highly active nine-year-old desperate to start navigating the streets on his own, this is terrifying to me,” Nicola Pastore, a parent who lives in Lambeth and plans to attend the ride with her three children, told Zag Daily Read more: https://lnkd.in/eEEfuK_V

French startup Beyond Aero has refined its hydrogen-electric jet, the BYA-1, making key design updates as it works to overcome regulatory hurdles and bring its aircraft to market. Beyond Aero estimates these refinements will significantly cut costs and could allow the BYA-1 to fall into a special category for EASA - European Union Aviation Safety Agency certification. “One of the biggest hurdles is establishing regulations that ensure the same safety level as conventional aircraft in the same category. To tackle this, Beyond Aero is collaborating with EASA to draft the certification basis for BYA-I and develop a ‘special condition’ tailored to this innovation,” Walter Filho, Head of Certification at Beyond Aero, told Zag Daily. #AAM #ZagAir Read more: https://lnkd.in/eYS_jcaN
