What are going to be the top trends for the Tech Market in 2025... There are countless articles out there if you put that search into Google and most of them seem to be in agreement. JLA Resourcing Ltd have summarised some of the key areas listed in the reports from Capgemini, KPMG, Forbes and Gartner. In the main, they're talking about the focus being on: - Generative AI – Autonomous Intelligent Systems that will lean and adapt to new situations - AI & Gen AI in Cyber – we’ll not only see huge progress in how AI is used for threat detection but also the negative side with AI being used for generating the threats themselves so here’s hoping defence keeps pace with attack - AI Driven Robotics – AI driven robotics to enhance productivity and safety - New Generation Supply Chain – companies looking to improve the efficiency and reliability of their supply chains - Post-Quantum Cryptography – protecting businesses from the security risks that will come from the advent of quantum computing - Energy efficient computing as companies focus on sustainability and reducing carbon emissions - A real focus on Hardware – with AI being integrated in to end user chips, IoT devices and Robotics - Solving the Climate Tech Challenge – the focus on this dropped in 2023 due to the global economic environment but Forbes (amongst others) believe that this will be scaled in to our everyday life What else would you add to the list?

I do love a good stat. Of the 654,000 interactions on our live platform last week, 40,800 were over our API. If your supplier doesn't offer open APIs included in the base product, and you're thinking "meh maybe we don't need em" then you are stuck in legacy la la land. API's bring the efficiency and interaction products need in a modern adaptive platform. That 1992 CSV FTP Ping Pong you are pretending works fine will bite you on the behind one day. As the Chief Technology Officer at a Health startup using AI, I see the introduction of the "Artificial Intelligence (Regulation) Bill" as a critical juncture for the technology sector. This proposed legislation offers a chance to establish a regulatory framework that not only protects the public and maintains ethical standards but also encourages innovation. The creation of an AI Authority could serve as a centralised body to ensure consistency and coherence across various sectors, effectively addressing the current regulatory fragmentation. Such regulation is crucial to balance rapid technological advancements with the need for transparency and accountability, ultimately fostering a more trustworthy AI ecosystem. Peter Kyle has done a great job commissioning Matt Clifford to deliver the UK's AI action plan. No better person to do this & the support from the #DSIT tech board, who's focus on driving the UK as an AI leader, is impressive. Under 14: "Accurately assess the size of the skills gap. Current estimates are imprecise and outdated; the last government-funded AI labour market survey was in 2020 and the Unit for Future Skills’ jobs and skills dashboard, while a step in the right direction, still uses supply data from 2019.[footnote 6] The success of the following recommendations depends on accurately understanding the skills gap, and so government must make efforts to come to a concrete and up-to-date number." This is going to be a critical element of the journey for #ai in the #uk & will need significant mindset change & training investment. Under 19: "Ensure its lifelong skills programme is ready for AI. AI will continue to change the labour market, though exactly how and when is unclear. What is certain is while some jobs will be replaced by AI, many will be augmented - and an unknown number will be created. Government should ensure there are sufficient opportunities for workers to reskill, both into AI and AI-enabled jobs and more widely. The UK should also learn and adopt best practice from other countries who are preparing their skills systems for the long-term impacts of AI. Singapore, for example, developed a national AI skills online platform with multiple training offers. South Korea is integrating AI, data and digital literacy throughout its education pipelines through an AI curriculum and a variety of training and education programmes. Skills England and the independent Curriculum and Assessment Review present an opportunity to consider the merit of such approaches in our system." Should employers subsidise public transport for their teams? An interesting read from City AM today (🔗 in comments) focusing on new research from the ONS highlighting the slowdown in London's productivity growth since the financial crisis. The data suggests a correlation with low productivity and office attendance (🥱...nothing new there!). Its a sensitive issue but irrespective of your opinion on productivity at home vs in the office it appears average days per week in the office in London lags behind many other international cities. One of the suggested improvements for this is subsidising travel costs for employees. “London’s workers are by far more likely to cite that travel costs are a barrier to getting back to work than workers elsewhere,” What grabbed my attention is an interesting comparison with our French neighbours. The French labor code requires employers to cover a minimum of 50% of commuting costs, many cover the entire cost. This feels like an interesting concept that could help with the cost of living and encourage people to spend more time together. The UK has the most expensive public transport costs in Europe. British employees can spend up to 20% of their salary on commuting, whist in France data I've seen indicates this to be nearer 6%. In 2023 the average change in regulated fares in the UK was 5.9% the highest since 2012. Its not getting cheaper either! Average gross salaries in France are also higher than the UK, which perhaps reinforces the squeeze that UK commuters feel. Lots to digest but in my experience I'm increasingly feeling people do want to get together more often for purposeful and personal connections. My gut feel is that subsidised transport would help support this. But from a business perspective the potentially significant increase in organisation labour costs is a hard swallow. Additionally it's considered a taxable benefit currently. What do you all think? - Are there examples of companies in the UK paying for employee public transport to the office - do those that do see higher office attendance? and would you be happier going to an office if your travel was paid for?
