We are pleased to announce that our partnership with Dstl, UK Ministry of Defence and industry specialists to ‘advance the transformation of autonomous #TandE’ will continue. Over the next six months, Project ZEUS will further develop the future capability operating concept for the test and evaluation (T&E) of autonomous military systems. We will continue to collaborate with specialist industry partners to advance blended live and synthetic techniques for the assurance of autonomous systems. And together, we will investigate lessons learned during Project ZEUS particularly in the areas of GNSS-denied (Global Navigation Satellite Systems) and BVLOS (Beyond Visual Line of Sight), to shape the ‘Range of the Future’ for autonomous systems. Refining T&E is vitally important to ensure that military capability is brought into service as swiftly as possible. As Freddie Martin, Programme Director T&E Transformation, MOD explains, “The future demands we get new technology into the hands of front-line users as quickly as possible. This means we have to make T&E as agile as the systems we are trying to acquire. Project ZEUS has shown that when you bring a group of small and medium enterprises into a collaborative environment, they not only solve their own challenges but others too – this is of great benefit to defence.” Bex White, Dstl Deputy Technical Lead for the project, said: “Dstl is constantly seeking faster exploitation of our science and technology through greater experimentation, technology demonstration, prototyping and support for test and evaluation working. Collaboration with small and medium enterprises such as Radnor helps us to accelerate the trials process and the speed with which technology can be brought into service.” Project ZEUS blends the synthetic environment with live range activities specifically aimed to bring forward military capability delivery. During this next phase we will be proposing the “Future Operating Model” for the T&E of Autonomous Systems, using the synthetic 3D model of Radnor Range and integrating “digital twins” of systems under test. Our approach will ensure agility, scalability and repeatability.  Live range testing remains essential for battlefield scenarios and the enhanced use of a synthetic environment reduces the physical time spent on the range. During the trial, the fully integrated system showcased its unique capabilities during both day and night operations out to ranges exceeding 100 nm. 👏

We're proud to share the news that we, alongside the UK Space Agency, are continuing to work with Astroscale for the world's first commercial end-of-life service for prepared satellites – these satellites are designed with technologies, such as an interface that will enable docking and removal. 🌍 As part of our Sunrise Partnership Project, a public-private partnership between European Space Agency - ESA and Eutelsat Group, the fourth phase of the demonstration will develop: 🚀 The flight model assembly, 🔧 Integration and testing, 🛰 Launch and commissioning through in-orbit demonstration activities, ♻ and full in-house operations of successfully docking, de-orbiting, and releasing of the Eutelsat OneWeb spacecraft. The UK Ministry of Defence (MOD) has reopened its £300 million Human Machine Teaming (HMT) framework to new participants, focusing on Robotic and Autonomous Systems (RAS). This initiative aims to leverage data and robotics to enhance battlefield decision-making and reduce reliance on human soldiers, especially in light of recent conflicts like the war in Ukraine, which showcased heavy drone usage. The HMT framework encompasses technologies such as Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, RAS, Networked Sensors, and Novel Weapons, with an emphasis on RAS development. UK Defence Secretary Grant Shapps emphasizes the changing nature of warfare, underscoring the importance of better human-machine teaming. The current opening of the HMT framework offers a £300 million headroom for the year, with potential extension until May 2026. It aims to enable RAS across various capabilities, categorized as "Operational RAS" directly affecting the battlefield and "Mission Support RAS" aiding operations execution. Applications for participation will be evaluated by the MoD's Expeditionary Robotics Centre of Expertise. The tender opened on April 16, 2024, and closes on May 17, 2024.
