Furthermore, the Type 2 Diabetes Prevention Decathlon provided by Sweatcoin and NHS South West London (HIN evaluation ongoing) is motivating those communities that are hardest to reach and engage, with up to 75% of users on our programme being from the BAME and lower socio economic population. Interestingly, the CVD Prevention Decathlon, the first of it's kind in the UK, provided by Sweatcoin (HIN evaluation ongoing) NHS South West London also deployed in NHS South East London ICB along with delivery partners Citizen Communications and Xyla, is further demonstrating that users continue to increase their movement after the initial 10 week hybrid delivery Decathlon programme. The NHS Clinical Waste Strategy has been created to make a step change in NHS waste management practices and to help reach the NHS targets of net zero for direct and indirect carbon emissions by 2040 and 2045 respectively. Clinical waste is classified based on its dangerous characteristics and the procedures for its treatment and disposal. By 2026, NHS providers need to achieve the new clinical waste segregation targets of 20:20:60. This means: 20% HTI (High-Temperature Incineration); 20% AT (Alternative Treatment); 60% OW (Offensive Waste). I have been performing some research with colleagues recently who come from all areas within the NHS. My final question to them was 'What would I need to do for you to sign up and have coaching with me'? I was suprised at the response, I thought it would be ● Provide ............ ● Reduce investment required ● provide shorter/Longer sessions But no! No one mentioned costs, add or take something away, the overriding response was. 'You made me feel safe and I trusted, you don't need anything different' This report simply adds credence to my very small sample outcomes. ........................ The highly anticipated Darzi Report was published yesterday. Commissioned by the incoming Secretary of State for Health and Social Care, this Independent Investigation of the National Health Service in England hoped to understand the healthcare system's performance and challenges. There will undoubtedly be many detailed analyses of the report in the coming days. I have been keen to reflect on how other health systems with similar delivery values as the NHS, particularly low/middle-income countries, can leverage these learnings and recommendations and perhaps anticipate some of these challenges in advance. My three takeaways with introspection are: Firstly, appreciating the demographic shift to an ageing society and the burden of non-communicable diseases will exert enormous pressure if huge primary, preventive care and social care investments are made from the offset. (the best time is now) This must be coupled with a whole-of-government approach addressing broader inequalities and social/commercial determinants of health. Secondly, while leveraging digital transformation and artificial intelligence may have enormous transformational potential to improve innovation, service productivity and delivery efficiency, the eco-system must be conducive, empowered and responsive to address inevitable challenges while governed by a robust framework and considered policies. Finally, having patients and healthcare providers at the front and centre of every conversation about health service improvement and delivery needs. Fundamentally, a responsive health system re-engages, acknowledges, empowers, and drives change guided by these voices. Link to the report below.
