Hey everyone I’m on the lookout for new opportunities as my contract role at the BBC wraps up at the end of this month. It's been a wild 12 months. After a tough redundancy that really took a toll on my wellbeing, I’ve bounced back stronger, working on a product I’m passionate about with an incredible team. The thing? BBC Food. Despite the brilliant editorial team, it was missing a product focus and was falling behind in overall priorities. I changed that. Here’s what I’ve been up to: • Developed and implemented a new product strategy with the support of senior stakeholders. • Raised c. £1m in internal investment to kickstart a vital technical migration. • Brought in the talented folks from Hippo to tackle the first steps of this migration, paving the way for bigger wins across the BBC. • Led a discovery phase to figure out future editorial tools and how they fit into our bigger picture. • Launched the migrated Articles in a new tech format, tripling our SERP impressions! Working with a fantastic panel of stakeholders and getting everyone on the same page has been an absolute triumph. It’s been the most rewarding work I’ve done in years. --- What’s next? Honestly, I’m open! A contract product, strategy or innovation role would be perfect, and if it could turn into a full-time gig, even better. Team Topologies for breakfast, anyone?🙂. Last week, Spectrum IT Recruitment invited me to introduce some of their awesome clients to new ways of thinking about how they structure their software teams. The session started at 8:30 am with a great breakfast selection put on by our hosts. Then we kicked off a 90-minute section introducing some key concepts and quickly got people hands-on trying to solve a real-world problem using the Team Topologies modelling shapes. Kinda love this new product vision from Xero: ✨ JAX: Just Ask Xero ✨ (https://lnkd.in/epz3d5S7) Some thoughts: ▶ Interesting that the video used in the promo (https://lnkd.in/exE9ajk3) are US English speaking actors. Clearly making a strategic push into the US , aligned with the C-Suite refresh to US execs (new CEO, CPO, CGO, and CMO - all US-based) 🇳🇿 -> 🇺🇸 ▶ Lots of modalities to access (in-app chat, mobile voice, attendee in a zoom call, SMS, WhatsApp, email) ▶ This is in Beta starting in August, so who knows how well this will actually work in practice. ▶ It’ll be interesting to see if users (business owners &/or bookkeepers) change how they interact with Xero & find value in this new conversational interface. I don’t think this behavioral shift is a given. Elsewhere in the ERP/GL world, NetSuite & QBO have also made AI announcements, but to date they have been underwhelming: ▶ QBO has a chatbot (AI Assist), but I have not heard many success stories of people using it yet. ▶ Netsuite has some GenAI, but it seems to be limited to descriptions of e-commerce items ("Text Enhance") & finally getting OCR, years after the rest of the industry. That’s weak sauce. Anyone finding success & killer applications wrt to GenAI in Accounting/Finance?

I do love a good stat. Of the 654,000 interactions on our live platform last week, 40,800 were over our API. If your supplier doesn't offer open APIs included in the base product, and you're thinking "meh maybe we don't need em" then you are stuck in legacy la la land. API's bring the efficiency and interaction products need in a modern adaptive platform. That 1992 CSV FTP Ping Pong you are pretending works fine will bite you on the behind one day.
