While "cat cuddles" may not be mentioned in Talos360's latest report on the future of talent, the list of motivators for UK employees it presents are as diverse as they are insightful: 1. Salary - 45% of employees say their compensation is a primary motivator. 2. Passion for the Job - 44% are driven by engaging in work they love. 3. Team Dynamics - 41% find motivation from working within a great team. 4. Company Culture - 34% are inspired by a positive workplace culture. 5. Recognition -Appreciation from the team is crucial for 34% of the workforce. These insights reflect the changing landscape of employee engagement but also highlight the need for organisations to adapt and evolve. Having a HR network is like having access to rocket fuel 🚀 I write a lot about the importance of having a trusted HR network. Throughout the years I've found mine to be a place to ✅ Validate my thinking (for all those nuanced HR situations) ✅ Get support (We all have different expertise) ✅ Share ideas (Lets not make the same mistakes, lets find new ones) ✅ Have a safe space to vent (cause you know...HR 😜) ✅ Brainstorm (Get a few HR peeps in the same space and the innovations flows) It's been such a boost for me personally and my career over the years... Building a network is much easier now as we can do this online. However if you have the opportunity to build in person, jump on it and embrace it 🚀 I am super excited about Friday this week as we are having our first Sydney Micro meet. I was chatting with a colleague last week and we were reflecting on the time management challenges that HR professionals face. Obviously there's a huge compliance element to any HR role but we were debating how much time is really spent on tasks that 'have' to be done versus tasks that they 'want' to do (i.e those projects that are on the wish list of things to complete). Is it 50:50 or are those value added projects being sacrificed in order to stay up to date with legislation and minimise risk to the organisation? A recent Brightmine survey found that employment law and compliance skills were deemed to be the second most valuable skillset an HR professional could have but the question that comes to mind is still the same - how do organisations ensure their HR teams are working on the things that will really matter to the business and it's staff, rather than spending all their time mitigating risk?

A couple of weeks ago, I spoke at an The HR World webinar on the changes to expect from our new labour government. Since then, and since The Kings' Speech, I am starting to look at opportunities according to some of these changes. And one of these is the evolving role of the HR Business Partner. I’m currently recruiting for an HR BP role, and I’ve noticed many applicants are looking to move because their current roles have become almost solely ER-focused. They’re happy to handle some ER work where necessary, but want to ensure they’re not neglecting all the other essential aspects of a true HR BP role. With an increase in worker's rights, there's a real risk that HR Business Partners will end up doing more Employee Relations work. This shift can pull them away from some of the other important elements of their role, which is all around adding value and building strong relationships within the company. HRBPs are key in driving business value, managing talent, and shaping a positive workplace culture. But if they’re tied up with ER tasks, like handling case work and compliance issues, they can’t focus on these strategic goals. This can slow down the organisation’s growth and development. To tackle this, companies need to ensure that they are bringing in ER specialists. These pros are well-versed in labour laws and can manage the nitty-gritty of ER work, freeing up HRBPs to focus on what they do best. With dedicated ER teams, HRBPs can spend more time on leadership development, succession planning, and boosting employee engagement. Having clear roles for HRBPs and ER specialists makes the whole HR function more efficient.
