If your IT staff start to feel insecure, talent competitors and recruiters will find it very easy to persuade your staff to interview elsewhere. What's the trickiest vacancy you're trying to fill? Often it's not the "Head of xxx" or "xxx Manager". It's a Technical Consultant with 2 years' experience. Or a Junior DBA. Recently it took me 2 months to fill a 1st Line Application Support Specialist role. These entry-level type of positions are critical for any company, but especially for SMEs. In my case it was for a construction business. Technical skills were important but CULTURE fit was massive. Stakeholder management skills were critical in order to deal with a wide variety of different users. We got there in the end, and both candidate and manager are a perfect match! But why so hard to find the right person, when you're hiring at entry/junior level? ➡️ There's not a lot of work experience to go on, so lots more CV screening and interviewing required. ➡️Typically less engagement, so harder to pin down for availablity and commit to interview. ➡️ More susceptible to counter offers. ➡️ Unrealistic salary expectations. "Why should we outsource recruitment? Can't our TA team handle it?" I think... Internal TA teams are experts in understanding the company culture. Bu when it comes to scaling quickly or hiring niche roles, it's impossible to throw every role at them and expect them to fill it. Sometimes you need extra hands. Demand for Intermediate-level Software Developers is decreasing, resulting in salary levels on offer declining. For the time being it appears that the days of intermediate developers securing 15% - 20% pay increases when moving jobs are over.   Current advertised salaries for software developers in the UK (3 months to June 2024) are down to 2019 levels.   Is this trend mirrored elsewhere in the world? What are the causes for this?

EOW Market Updates for Tech Folk in the Trading Tech world: - There is currently a HUGE battle amongst companies for top IT Talent. Everyone is hiring. But they only want the top %, and are willing to pay for it. If you are the top %, now is a good time to engage with recruiters and gauge the market - There is a HUGE battle amongst everyone else regarding finding jobs. At the middle % there's is not much client demand and lots of people looking. Advice for people here is be flexible where you can be flexible, bed in and get through the next 6-12 months in good shape - WFH debate rages on. Trenches are dug and no man's land is full of recruiters trying to talk about it and getting shelled on both sides :) Seriously speaking, some firms are competing based on flex, some have moved on completely and want everyone back in. There's something out there for all, so choose your companies based on who meets your preferences. - Lots of heavy hitters moving Fund-to-Fund or into buy-side, expect big tech growth programmes to drop in '25 budget cycles - Trend for techies to do 3 jobs in 1 is continuing, those that can context shift effectively and maintain high quality levels are flooded with opportunity - Head says Dricus, Heart says Izzy.
