The NHS Confederation and the Association of the British Pharmaceutical Industry (ABPI) have published new guidance on how the NHS can make the most of life science industry partnerships. The guidance includes key advice on how to make partnerships work and how to set them up with success in mind, including involving the community in the early planning stages. This new guidance is a very practical resource, bringing together existing frameworks and providing additional support for partnership working across primary, secondary, and system settings. It includes clear template forms to aid in understanding collaborative and joint working agreements. The guidance also incorporates case studies that illustrate the process of identifying, implementing, and monitoring prospective partnerships. By consolidating guidance for partnership working, this document seeks to equip system leaders with the tools and insights to support effective collaborations that will successfully drive positive health outcomes for patients.

Opportunity to co-design and pilot CLEAR’s AI-powered clinical notes summary tool   The National CLEAR Programme is delighted to be announcing the launch of a seven-month AI pilot which is open to seven NHS trusts across England.   It follows the programme’s development of a new clinically-designed AI powered patient consultation summary tool which can transform workforce productivity enabling more time for patients.   Expressions of interest are now being sought for the pilot which offers seven NHS trusts (one per region) to become early adopters and co-designers of the tool within pre-operative assessment (anaesthetics).    Two webinars providing further information are being held on Wednesday 29 May and Tuesday 4 June 2024. Between 2020 and 2024, there's been a remarkable 8% increase in confidence, with levels of distrust remaining impressively low. In fact, only one in ten (11%) HCPs express any skepticism towards the sector. 📢 Oracle Head & Neck Cancer UK Launches £55,000 Small Grants Programme 📢 We’re thrilled to announce the launch of our Small Grants Programme aimed at advancing research to improve outcomes for head and neck cancer patients. With a total funding pool of £55,000, we’ll be supporting 1-3 innovative research projects that have the potential to translate into clinical practice, benefit patients directly, or lay the groundwork for future large-scale studies. We led a two-year national programme to improve outcomes for people with uncontrolled asthma in partnership with the NHS Accelerated Access Collaborative and Health Innovation Network. It led to better identification of patients, upskilling of staff and streamlining access to experts. A paper published this week in the Pharmaceutical Journal summarises the approach and successes. Almost 5,000 extra people with uncontrolled asthma started getting life-changing biologic treatment with more than 3,000 fewer people receiving high-dose steroids which have significant side-effects.
