This was a tremendously fun podcast to be a guest on. 🙏 Two things that were brought up that we breezed right by and didn't dig into: 1. Tameka Kee brought up Adobe Flash in the context of Google's Privacy Sandbox. Flash got into trouble for running "extra" applications inside people's browsers. Will PSB run afoul of similar problems? I happen to think it's a really interesting analogy of what can go wrong when you have an application (a browser) meant to do one thing but you introduce parallel applications that run inside it. 🛠 2. Lynne d Johnson brought up so-called "ghost kitchens" in the context of something like an AI personal shopper that could curate stores for you. TBH maybe it's a ray of hope. The ghost kitchen model isn't doing well. Maybe people don't want fully virtualized everything and this will put some checks on AI's progress as it starts to permeate commerce and digital media. 🤷‍♂️

In 2018 I was introduced to this incredible Ted Talk delivered by the amazing Harvard Professor Frances Frei (see below) - who I also had the upmost pleasure of seeing live whilst at eBay too…such a memorable career highlight 😀! I often still re-visit this video it’s messaging and importance… Trust is the fundamental to business, sales, high performance and talent retention. Without the baseline of trust there is no real anchor or pull… As part of my leadership development I recently recieved feedback on my management and one thing that really came through was mutual trust…over and over again. Trust is not just words you cannot be gaslit into it by a leader or company, it’s a feeling evoked shown through actions, genuine care…wether that be empathic or hard conversations to aid development - your team knowing that what you say to them ie. to their face you say in closed forums too, you go to bat for them, you protect and challenge them, fostering a culture of trust and transparency even in challenging times or difficult moments…emulating this leadership so ALL team members feel it!! Trust is crucial in the workplace for several reasons. ✅When employees trust their colleagues and leaders, it fosters ethical and equitable decision-making. ✅Promotes loyalty, and increases the willingness to remain with a company. ✅Trust also plays a vital role in reducing stress levels and hostility in the work environment. ✅Additionally, trust helps overcome resistance to change. ✅Aids high performance and boost low confidence (ability to talk vulnerably) Developing and nurturing trust within the workplace is essential for a healthy and productive work environment to strive and thrive! A brilliant talk by Mark Kirkham and Mauro Porcini of PepsiCo at Cannes Lions International Festival of Creativity on 'The Human Side of Growth'. My key take-out? Human-centricity means we must widen the lens to see the whole human and then sharpen the lens to get granular. Both spoke passionately about how PepsiCo has embraced seeing people as humans - not just consumers. As we say at Brand Genetics, 'You're a consumer of a brand for a fleeting moment, but you're human 100% of your life'. Too many businesses zoom in on the so-called 'moment of truth' - purchase and consumption. However, true insight lies in understanding the human journey leading to that choice and the underlying goals. By uncovering human motivations and the human jobs-to-be-done, we can discover richer, deeper opportunities. Mark and Mauro both spoke to how how being truly human centric could unlock growth by helping brands become more creative, more innovative and more experiential. They made a compelling case. Loyal and repeat Brand customers are always most beloved by companies with franchise Brands, i.e., “cash cows”. But eventually, those customers either switch Brands for some reason or they just literally die. So, loading the pipeline with younger generations of new customers and “users” is always the key to growth and why media PENETRATION will always reign supreme, and that takes major multi-media spending in these days of increasingly fragmented consumer audiences. Which leads to the $64,000 question … What media mix; what message; and how to penetrate? Because without PENETRATION, you’re not even “in” (forgive the pun if you will). 😂
