A quick fire round of Questions with Emma !! ➡️What is your favourite part about running Equine Careers ? Helping people find a career they love - so they love going to work. ➡️What is the worst part about running Equine Careers ? Having to tell people when they have not been successful in securing the role ➡️What Dogs do you have ? Flatcoated Retrievers, they are the best as they are always so happy and playful. I have had flatcoats for 24 years. At the moment we have 2, Pip who we bred is 4 and Gus who is just 6 months currently. ➡️What do you do in your spare time? Riding and competing. I have competed in most disciplines and used to do a lot of Team Chasing, at one point running 3 teams at Novice and Intermediate level. I loved being part of a team, the friendships and feeling of achievement to get round the larger tracks. ➡️What was the most recent film you saw at the Cinema? Paddington in Peru ! ➡️What would be your takeaway choice for dinner ? Chinese ➡️What has been your biggest achievement ? Winning the BETA International Innovation Award when I first set up Equine Careers, it really helped me get the business on the map. ➡️Your favourite night out ? A dinner with friends ➡️The scariest thing you've ever done ? The Oakley Team Chase (Intermediate) I was relieved to finish and relocating to a completely different area where I did not know anyone last year. ➡️What have you loved most in the 16 years you've been running Equine Careers ? You might think you've spent enough on your education as a Personal Trainer. It's not cheap. I looked at all the providers and decided it was too much to risk on a business I know nothing about. Until I dropped into an informal female trainer's weekly group zoom call with Joanne Groves. What a start to 2025!!! I just returned from an incredible trip to Tenerife, where I had the privilege of working with the Hull KR Rugby team to prepare for the upcoming season. Having collaborated with the Rovers for nearly a decade, I can confidently say this year’s experience was one of our best yet! In the weeks leading up to our trip, I set a unique challenge for the players: to bring a map, gaffer tape, two plastic milk cartons, and some tie wraps. My goal? To recreate the feeling of performance anxiety. The players knew the sessions would be tough, but the purpose behind the materials remained a mystery. Day 1, kicked off with just a map. Meeting at the hotel reception at 6:00 AM, we embarked on a walk to the beach, where a coach awaited us. As we boarded and handed in our phones, the atmosphere was electric with curiosity. The bus took us to what I believe is one of the best boxing gyms in Europe. The session was intense and set the tone for the week ahead (details remain confidential!). On Day 2, the mystery continued. Again at 6:00 AM, we met at the beach, where I revealed the next challenge: build two rafts that float using the items they brought. This activity required organization, leadership, teamwork, and belief in one another. Elliot Minchella emerged as a fantastic team captain, taking charge and asking if he could use materials he found on the beach. He creatively incorporated sun loungers into the raft design, organized two teams, and assigned roles to everyone. Their belief in the project paid off—the rafts floated successfully! At the end of our journey, I shared a powerful lesson: “Day 1 was about being tough. Day 2 was about being smart. Because sometimes it’s not smart to be tough; it’s tough to be smart. If we have both, we will be twice as good as everybody else.” As we gear up for the season, I’m more excited than ever to see how these valuable lessons translate on the field.
