The NHS app is changing how we access healthcare, making it more convenient for millions. With 33.6 million users, it already supports prescription orders and appointment management. Plans to include personal records have sparked debate. Where does an award winning idea come from? 🏆 Generating an idea that wins gold for ‘Best Use of Creative’ at the B2B awards is no walk in the park… or is it? 🤔 Our clients goal was to highlight the lack of harmony in FTSE 500 boardrooms, through a campaign promoting the need for a GC (General Counsel). After the creative briefing and a week of brainstorming okay-ish ideas, myself and partner Jack hit a plateau. 🧠 As discussions started to turn more towards football, we decided to take a step away from the screen and go for a walk. With brains still storming over the GC, i returned from a stroll round the park to the god awful tune of someone next door hitting keys on the piano. 🎹 ‘Is this even a song? Or is he just hitting random keys?’ I thought… 💭  and as I struggled to open the stiff lock on the front door, trying to escape the pain my ears felt… that’s when it hit me. • G and C could be keys… 🎶 • We could record a song… 🎙 • We could record music videos with no G and C notes and they’ll represent the boardrooms! 🎷 Three bespoke songs written, our first on-site shoot as an agency and an incredible team effort later, the ‘Everything’s better with the GC’ campaign was born. Questioning the Future of Design This week, with our founder David Kelley in IDEO London, I took the opportunity to host a debate about the future of our practice. The radical question posed was: How can we deliberately disrupt our process using AI tools? This provocation sparked discussions about how we can also tackle inclusive design and climate-era design in the process. It’s easy to be dazzled by new technology, but the core question should always be: What real problem are we solving? Designers can play a critical role at this moment. We know how to solve real needs for *people* and understand that a ‘technology-first’ approach isn’t the route to solutions that benefit the many. But we also need to keep reminding the organizations we influence of these facts, and to focus on real needs.

Very interesting talk today on AI. I have been a bit standoff-ish of AI, but fully aware the industry is taking advantage of it - hence not wanting to get left behind. Some very positive information gained today - in how as a designer you can use AI as an aid, whilst not letting it take over your true human creativity.

This year has seen some soul searching here at Halo . After 20 years of continuous improvement, we are always looking for ways to grow. So we have been asking ourselves some very big questions – like why do clients come to Halo? What they are seeking from us? What do we really offer? Next year is going to see some changes, specifically in how we define and articulate the real value that we bring to the table. It is going to see changes in how we work and how we achieve the outcomes that we’re always aiming for clients, and that define our success. But we also know this is larger than Halo. This is an industry shift. This is a refocusing of what you’re actually buying from a brand agency. Which is why it is so good for me to read this article by our close neighbours Taxi Studio and Spencer Buck in Design Week . As brand agencies, we need to be thinking about how we talk about and deliver our work. And there is so much sense spoken in this article. So, I’d like to wish Taxi all the best in their new home (although it does mean you’ll be a little further away from us now). And I would like to encourage other leading brand agencies to really make the time to think about what the future of our industry might look like.
