    Project: To design and conceive a laser based infrared imaging system to be commercialised for use in the medical sciences.     Project: To design and conceive a laser based infrared imaging system to be commercialised for use in the medical sciences. This project was heavily involved in applied optics, laser physics, microscopy, non-linear optics, IR spectroscopy, opto-electronics, and both mechanical and electronic instrumentation. A high level of software programming was also required (Labview, Fortran, C++, Visual Basic) for instrument control and interfacing and also mathematical modelling for implementing statistical techniques. The highly cross disciplined nature of the project required collaboration with clinicians and pathologists from Cancer Research UK. A broad knowledge of cellular biology and histopathology was also gained from this experience. The novel instrument developed was patented.
