Companies in England and Wales experienced a sharp fall in insolvencies in March, however, the retail and hospitality sector remains badly hit. My colleague at FTI Consulting, Lindsay Hallam, commented that whilst slowing inflation and the rise in the national living wage should “generate a positive response from consumers”, we should remain cautious as many businesses may find it challenging to absorb the higher wage costs. We analysed the data on our VC deals in the last 2 years to consider what impact the introduction of the updated BVCA documents had on VC deals. This coincided with a big swing in the market which made for some interesting results... take a look to see what we thought. A raft of changes announced yesterday especially in relation to capital taxes. AUTUMN BUDGET ’24: CGT & BADR CHANGES 💼   From today, the lower rate of Capital Gains Tax (CGT) will increase from 10% to 18%.   The higher rate of CGT will increase from 20% to 24%.   The rates for sale of residential property remain unaltered.   The ‘carried interest’ CGT rate is increasing to 32% from April 2025, with further reform from April 2026 to tax it under income tax. ‘Carried interest’ is a share of the profits generated by an investment fund, paid out to the fund’s investment managers.   Business Asset Disposal Relief (BADR) stays at 10% for 2024/25, then 14% from 2025/26, then 18% from 2026/27.   The 14% difference between sales qualifying for BADR and the new main rate of CGT should be an incentive to move sales forwards to before April 2025.   Stay tuned for our full Budget breakdown, releasing soon. https://lnkd.in/ePZrjsW7 #AutumnBudget2024 #BudgetUpdates

Some initial thoughts from me, and others, on the increase to tax rates on carried interest from 6 April 2025 (followed by more substantial reforms, and a further additional increase from 6 April 2026)

It was great to host so many within the Private Equity and Private Capital industry at our Briefing Call this afternoon where we discussed the process of the Government’s Call for Evidence on the UK tax treatment of carried interest, closing on 30th August 2024. The full HMT document can be found here: https://lnkd.in/eVTvxW8G The key points we covered were: 1.
