The GDMA recently released their international benchmark report for email (based on a roll up of the whole of 2023) which I thought could be interesting to share for all those marketers and business owners in my network that are involved in email. (1) if Google has already been shown to artificially inflate CPCs in auctions they know have the margin to do so (as revealed in the DOJ trial) and if (2) brands are adding their actual LTV numbers into the NCA goal in Google as "additional "revenue expected for a new customer, Then: What is stopping Google from secretly utilizing that additional NCA amount to inflate New Customer auctions even more than 10-15% (what Dischler claimed in the trial). Ouch.

Bluesky Introduces Trending Topics Feature Bluesky Social, a social media platform, has introduced a Trending Topics feature into beta as announced on its platform. This feature, highly requested by users, mirrors a functionality in Threads for about nine months and in X (formerly Twitter) since at least 2017. Trending Topics displays the top viral content on the platform, currently highlighting topics such as "Christmas," "Nosferatu," and "Wikipedia," the latter influenced by Elon Musk. Users can access the Trending section through the search option on both desktop and mobile applications, and there is an option to disable this feature in the settings. Additionally, any muted words by the user will not appear in the Trending Topics. Bluesky has recently reached a milestone of 25 million users, many of whom migrated from X following the US elections. Despite being smaller than Threads and X, Bluesky is noted for its high user engagement and a lower incidence of bots and harassment. Another HCU recovery. In this instance - the domain was top heavy with 90% of clicks from 10% of pages. Post March core update (HCU baked in) we saw 80% of all URLS lost more than 70% of clicks - the losses were nearly all uniform and were isolated to specific sub folders around finance. HCU recovery saw a U-TURN on pages hit where surrounding non value content was removed. A majority of content left untouched, although YMYL improvements added. Onwards and upwards. Again - this ratifies the point: If content EXISTS but does NOT add value in either: 1. Clicks direct from search OR 2. Clicks from internal links being clicked where the content attracted engagement via pre-existing sessions then there's no point keeping it. Content strategies SHOULD ALWAYS FACTOR IN CONTENT LIFECYCLES! This means 1. Produce 2. Maintain 3. Adjust (based on engagement) 4. Keep, Cull or Consolidate 5. Maintain content distance (stop cannibalisation) A large amount of content strategies LITERALLY focus on new content production - in most cases this is UNSUSTAINABLE. #seo #seotips #digitalmarketing

Outbound really doesn't have to be complicated personalised workflows. This is an example of one of our SEO plays which we ran over the last 2-days. We really tried to team great deliverability, laser-sharp prospecting and a strong offer together here. For context, we were reaching out to CMOs/CEOs of recently funded SaaS companies. We didn't mention any fancy personalised data points or even the fact they were funded. We used that data to navigate the hypothesised position they were in. As an agency, we have shifted to focusing on the position of the prospect rather than the actual messaging. We made it really simple, 5th grade reading level and low touch.

The Value in Measurement report from JICMAIL and DMA (Data & Marketing Association) UK is available and is an informative and interesting read for anyone looking to understand effective cross channel measurement for marketing campaigns. Staggeringly 65% of respondents still report a misalignment on measurement and reporting across channels. That's a crazy figure but does highlight challenges of measuring each marketing channel fairly. The report provides recommendations on how to create an aligned view for looking at performance.
