Monika Calay, Director, Manager Research UK, joined a panel at Fund Forum yesterday discussing 2024 distribution trends including tech platforms, ETFs, and customisation using technology. She said:“In 2022, we launched the first UK Managed Portfolio Database, giving us an unprecedented look under the hood of managed portfolios. Our research uncovered around 1,200 managed portfolios in the UK, with the vast majority being multi-asset offerings primarily comprised of mutual funds. Interestingly, ETFs make up about 12% of these holdings, while single stocks account for just 1%. Index funds feature prominently, playing their role as low-cost building blocks. We’ve seen a notable increase in the use of passive investments. From 2018 to 2022, there was a surge in managed portfolio launches, but this momentum slowed in 2023, which may suggest that the market is maturing.”
