What are the most important things to consider when discussing your public speaking experience?
- Consider what the audience really need/want to hear about, versus what might satisfy you to cover. -Having got clear on that, then trust in being you. - Be confident to use your own language and storytelling, not corporate speak. - Finally, work on relaxing. How can you build trust with people who value relationships over results?
Doesn’t matter whether someone values results or relationships (hard to separate the two?). Hold you own standards in any relationship. Be transparent, always be truthful. The relationship won’t be doubted as a consequence. Which likely needs time to be proven…so be prepared to build relationships that don’t have an obvious goal or immediate ‘return’. Use language you’d use at home and with friends…why corporate speak ever emerged is probably telling as to the issues regarding the workplace over recent times. But it’s not normal. Consider and relate to others lives and experiences when communicating, nuanced beyond ‘know audience’. Don’t just tailor, understand.
