Dr Mohamed A. El-Erian is President of Queens' College, Cambridge University. He serves as part-time Chief Economic Advisor at Allianz and Chair of Gramercy Fund Management. The Rene M. Kern Practice Professor at The Wharton School and Lauder Senior Global Fellow (University of Pennsylvania), he is a Financial Times contributing editor, Bloomberg Opinion columnist, and the author of two New York Times best sellers. He serves on several non-profit boards, including the NBER, and those of Barclays and Under Armour.

Dr El-Erian formerly served as CEO/co-CIO of PIMCO (2007-2014) where he worked for fourteen years, and as chair of President Obama's Global Development Council. (2012-2017).

He first joined PIMCO in 1999 as head of emerging markets portfolio management. He re-joined the firm at the end of 2007, having served two years as president and CEO of Harvard Management Company, the entity that manages Harvard’s endowment.

Before coming to PIMCO, Dr. El-Erian was a managing director at Salomon Smith Barney/Citigroup, having spent 15 years at the International Monetary Fund in Washington, D.C. where he rose to Deputy Director.

Dr. El-Erian has published widely on international economic and finance topics. His book, "When Markets Collide," won the Financial Times/Goldman Sachs 2008 Business Book of the Year and was named a book of the year by The Economist and one of the best business books of all time by the Independent (UK). His second book, "The Only Game in Town," also was a bestseller. He was named to Foreign Policy’s list of “Top 100 Global Thinkers” four years in a row. He's also been widely recognized for his philanthropy.

Dr. El-Erian has served on several boards and committees, including the U.S. Treasury Borrowing Advisory Committee, International Center for Research on Women, Peterson Institute for International Economics, Carnegie Endowment, and the IMF's Committee of Eminent Persons. He is currently a board member of the NBER, Barclays and Under Armour, and co-chairs the capital campaign for Cambridge. He has been chair of the Microsoft Investment Advisory Board since 2007

He holds a master's degree and doctorate (economics) from Oxford and received his bachelor and master degrees from Cambridge
