Easy to forget how many critical systems there are in most businesses, airlines included, and how interrelated they are. Reading about the tech issues BA encountered yesterday: - Downdetector says problems with website, problems with checkin, problems with login. - Apparently passengers reported pilots couldn't access flight plans, communication systems not working. Whatever happened it's very hard to stop an issue escalating in today's interconnected world. If nothing else, the fact that flights are delayed would mean surges of customers doing unusual activities (like flight checks and changes). Unplanned peaks can catch any business and supporting technology teams off guard. Highlights the importance of investing in good tech hygiene for critical systems, and making sure the architectural foundations are strong enough to give you resilience when the unexpected happens. https://lnkd.in/eMVasMut Capacitas

Ian Ragsdale has just delivered an absolute masterclass in change management with some great examples in practice at #DEX2024. Ian referred to the framework for each case study: 💡Effective framing 💡Defined audience 💡Deeper analysis 💡Deliver via enablers Ian walked through a case study from Whole Foods and the change management process to launch a new employee app and intranet. Whole Foods went from sending 900 information emails to store managers a month to having everything compressed into an employee intranet. To begin, it was important to develop the narrative and connect with the company culture. A fun way to tie this together was to also honour the past. Whole Foods went to the next level by having a bread breaking ceremony for the official launch of the app! Now, the results… 65% of downloads in 30 days. Ian also shared a case study for launching generative AI at Visa. There were several digital workplace pillars to deliver this - SharePoint sites, intranet and Viva Engage. The goal was to be bold, fast and achieve 100% adoption. This involved creating a tech site which is the place you start your journey through AI. Gen AI can seen really scary to a lot of people so it was important to provide reassurance. Visa thought it was important to tell the story of AI at Visa (which actually goes back 30 years!). It made it seem less of a big deal and made people more open to change. The adoption strategy was also centred around using Visa Engage to share these messages. This involved sharing resources and tips on how to write good prompts. Finally, a few tips on the ‘how’ to deliver change: 😊 1-2 sentence summary with what + why ☺️ Timeline of the change 😊 Reason for change ☺️ ROI of the change

One year of consumer duty and one month at Altus Consulting feels very synchronistic! I also loved this great image for the good people at Gapingvoid Culture Design Group today. It seems to me that inertia has maligned UK platforms for a while now. Whilst other finanical services sectors are evolving at unprecedented speeds, platforms have barely just tinkered round the edges of proposition, tech supplier and service. I can’t help but think that the very low bar that advisers have seemed to accept in terms of service has allowed platforms to almost get away with it. The consumer duty paradigm shift to outcomes not input should reinvigorate the entire industry and reignite that innovation and disruption we saw with RDR and launch of platforms as we know them today. The most impactful statement (used over 50 times in the regulations) is ‘avoid foreseeable harm’ and platforms have already seen proactive action by the FCA challenging on cash interest behaviours, non-standard investments, transfer processes and weakness in operational resilience. You only have to listen to the myriad anecdotal stories of platform trading errors, client income failures, wildly endemic complex manual processes and workarounds that lead to woeful inconsistencies in service and response times, to realise that platforms have got a lot more coming their way. We’re at such an interesting inflection point in the market where customers and advisers will experience a lot of change with UK platform providers. We’re already seeing the emerging leaders driving the customer back to the heart of great service, great products and great outcomes. Equally, we’re starting to see some former stalwarts stutter and lose their way. Time for us all to really start paying attention, because below standard just won’t cut it any more.
