I had the privilege of attending the Changing Perceptions conference, organised by Women in Manufacturing at the Manufacturing Technology Centre (MTC) in Coventry last Thursday. It was nothing short of inspiring! The room was filled with industry leaders, all driven to break barriers and reimagine the future of manufacturing. From powerful workshops on diverse roles, overcoming imposter syndrome, and leveraging digital technology to shaping the future of manufacturing jobs, the event sparked vital conversations on how we can create more inclusive spaces and opportunities for women in the industry. One message resonated deeply: women belong in manufacturing—not as the exception, but as leaders, innovators, and changemakers. The under-representation of women in this sector is a challenge we must meet head-on by raising awareness, mentoring future talent, and transforming the narrative around manufacturing careers. The time for change is now. Let’s lift each other up and continue driving progress toward a more diverse, inclusive, and dynamic industry. Just picked up my final train home after a morning with techUK at their Manchester Showcase, presenting what we are doing at Deep Green. With Beau Bartlett at Trace, Sarah Pearson at C2Zero, Alejandro Navarro edenseven Simon Dickson at DXC Technology, Dr. Stefanie Gey from DrivingWhatMatters4ESG (DWM4ESG) and Circularity First What did I learn? 1. With three carbon platforms presenting, Scope Three is (still) the frontier of complex data sets and reporting approaches, although there is some consensus emerging globally about standards. Doing something is better than waiting for perfect data, especially as it the reaction that matters (deduction, avoidance and removals). 2. That allowing people to pollute and use emissions allowances isn't sustainable (obviously) and you can pay to take the certificates off the market. I'm sure lots of people know about this stuff; I'm still learning. 3. That there are platforms like DWM4ESG that are searchable marketplaces for credible innovative technologies. useful when there are millions in play and you don't know what you don't know. #FTFutureofAI Summit 2024 What a great 2 days! So much fun talking about the future of AI. I am absolutely convinced as a technologist it’s our responsibility to put the tools, measures and information for innovation in the hands of SMEs in a business. They are the life blood, that’s where innovation will spark and transformation will happen. They know what your customers wish, need and hate! I also stand by my point that conversation or interaction is so much more than understanding audio! Its about expression, its body language and its social norms. Aka its not just what you say! its how you say it! And what you mean by it! Lastly most information is so “latent”, and we need to raise it up, explore it, and exploit it!
