Fox‘s “Lethal Weapon” pilot has cast “Rectify” star Clayne Crawford in the lead role of Martin Riggs, Variety has learned.

Crawford will take on the character made famous by Mel Gibson in Warner Bros.’ hit “Lethal Weapon” film franchise. Crawford will star opposite Damon Wayans, Sr., who will play Roger Murtaugh, the role originated by Danny Glover on the big screen.

Martin Riggs is described as a former Navy SEAL and Texas cop who suffers the loss of his wife and baby and tries to start anew by moving to Los Angeles and a new job at the LAPD, where he is partnered with Wayans’ Murtaugh.

In addition to the upcoming fourth and final season of SundanceTV’s “Rectify,” Crawford will next be seen in Legendary Pictures’ supernatural thriller, “Spectral,” opposite James Badge Dale. The actor’s previous credits include “24,” “Justified,” “NCIS: New Orleans” and “Rogue.” He’s repped by APA.

The pilot hails from from Warner Bros. Television is executive produced by Matt Miller, McG, Dan Lin and Jennifer Gwartz. Miller wrote the script for the pilot, which will be directed by McG. Previously announced cast members include Jordana Brewster, Golden Brooks and Kevin Rahm.
