crash kilbirnie

News from NZTA Waka Kotahi
Drivers travelling between the Wellington CBD and the Miramar Peninsula faced delays this afternoon following a crash on State Highway 1 near Hataitai/Kilbirnie.

The highway was closed between the intersections of Moxham Avenue and Kilbirnie Crescent following a crash in which a car rolled on to its roof.

The incident was reported shortly before 2:30 pm.

Drivers were told to avoid the area and use an alternative route until the crash site is cleared.

The crash was cleared and the road was reopened at 3.50 pm.

RNZ reported that the car which flipped was a Wellington Combined taxi.

Wellington Combined Taxis contracts manager Harpreet Kohli told RNZ he was made aware of the crash at 3pm. Kohli said when his staff arrived, ambulance workers and police were attending to their driver. He was not injured badly besides some concussion. He was taken to hospital for x-rays, Kohli said.

As a driver trying to get from Miramar to Wellington city, the traffic chaos extended to pretty much every road into the city.

Stephanie2. The alternate inward route Round the Bays has the huge bottleneck of the pipe replacement on Wakefield Street, so I’m guessing things backed up…
