On the eve of their eagerly anticipated reunion show tonight (Dec. 20) at the Shrine Expo Hall in Los Angeles, My Chemical Romance revealed on Thursday that their long-awaited getback has actually been years in the making. The group featuring singer Gerard Way, guitarists Frank Iero and Ray Toro and bassist Mikey Way officially announced their reconfiguration last month, but in a post on Friday they said this has been in the works for way, way longer than we knew.
MCR called it quits in 2013, and according to the tweet, “In 2017, we got in a room together to see what would happen. A couple more jam sessions and 39 days of rehearsals later, we’re ready to show you what we’ve learned. See you soon.”

The group’s members have been silent so far about what brought them back together, so fans will have to wait for tonight’s show to find out. So far the band has only announced three other shows — the Download Festival in Melbourne, Australia (March 20) and Sydney (March 21) and The Outer Fields fest (March 25) in Western Springs, New Zealand. As if you need to get any more excited, Mikey Way has shared a picture of the guitar picks he’ll be using at the show. “I’m f—in’ ready! he wrote in an Instagram post of a plastic bag of picks that read “Mikey F—in Way.”
