With the Oklahoma Sooners’ season opener against the Florida Atlantic Owls less than 48 hours away, the long-awaited official depth chart has finally been released.

Some things that stand out:
- The slot receiver position (H) is full of ‘ORs’, with Nick Basquine OR Drake Stoops OR Myles Tease listed as the starter(s). Notably absent from that list is 2017 starter Mykel Jones, who is third on the depth chart at one of the outside positions (Z). There’s quite a bit to unpack there, but it’s definitely exciting to know that the son of Bob Stoops is going to get a shot as a true freshman.
- The backup RB spot held by Trey Sermon OR Marcelias Sutton, which is a bit of a surprise. I am, however, looking forward to seeing what Sutton can do as a senior. He looked pretty solid at times last year and definitely has some burst to him.
- The center position has still not been decided (publicly, at least), as the starter is listed as Jonathan Alvarez OR Creed Humphrey. Either way, OU will likely be in pretty good shape at that position.
- The starter at JACK is still up in the air, as Addison Gumbs and Mark Jackson are still battling it out. I’d expect to see a whole lot of both on Saturday.
- The same goes for the WILL position, with the battle between Curtis Bolton and Caleb Kelly still ongoing.
- At the MIKE position, true freshman DaShaun White has earned the backup spot. There’s a reason this staff wanted him so badly in the last cycle. As has been the case recently, former MIKE LB Jon-Michael Terry is now over at JACK.
- Kahlil Haughton (FS) and Justin Broiles (SS) have won the safety spots for the time being, but I’d expect this competition to stay open throughout the early stages of the season. As expected, Bookie Radley-Hiles is the starter at the nickel position.
- With the 4-2-5 being utilized, the SAM position is absent from the depth chart.
- Marcelias Sutton is a kick returner once again, but cornerback Tre Brown will now be back there, as well. I LOVE IT!
- Marquise Brown and CeeDee Lamb are still battling it out for punt return duties, and I imagine both will get a crack at it on Saturday. I’m not huge on Brown returning punts, but he could potentially be electric back there.
- The long-snapper duties are still undecided, which feels a little unsettling. True freshman Zach Edwards and redshirt freshman Kasey Kelleher are in the mix for that job.
