Choosing to kill or spare Ukita Naoie in Assassin's Creed Shadows is a choice you need to make at the end of the 'Spring and Fall' quest while looking for The Noble Shinbakufu.
No matter who you play as throughout this quest in Assassin's Creed Shadows, when it comes time to choose whether to spare or kill Ukita Naoie it will be up to Naoe to make that choice.

Should you kill or spare Ukita Naoie in Assassin's Creed Shadows
Ultimately, your choice doesn't matter whether you choose to kill or spare Ukita Naoie as he will die at the end of the quest no matter what you choose. The rewards at the end of the quest will be the same, however you can give Ukita Naoie's son some closure if you pick one decision over the other.
Kill Ukita Naoie
If you choose to kill Ukita Naoie then he won't put up a fight and you'll instantly slit his throat. When you return to Kuroda Kanbei you'll have a couple of dialogue options of what to say to Naoie's son when he appears and the choice here doesn't matter either.
The rewards for choosing to kill Ukita Naoie are:
- Oni's Fury - Legendary Amulet
- Damage for Non-Legendary Gear - Engraving
- 225 Mon
Spare Ukita Naoie
If you choose to spare Ukita Naoie then he'll tell you that as long as he's alive, his son will be in danger and he will willingly give his life up to protect him. In the end, you will kill him anyway but if you let him finish reading the scroll earlier in the mission, he'll recite a verse from it (which was written by his son) before you take his life.
When you return to Kuroda Kanbei, you'll be able to tell Naoie's son the verse he spoke before dying and his son will find comfort in the fact his father did read his work.

- Damage for Non-Legendary Gear - Engraving
