A middling episode

Grampa gets his driving licence back in this so-so episode from a series that up until this point has been remarkably consistent.

That's not to say it doesn't have its moments, but it's not one of my favourite episodes.

Anecdotes
The idea for the episode was pitched by Jon Vitti who was inspired by an article about senior homes.The article described senior homes as being a lot like high schools, in that there are popular and unpopular people, and that those who, for example, own a car are "like kings".

Gaffes
During the race, when one of Abe's friends reaches into the opposing car with a shoe on a stick, one of the men in that car cries out in Spanish, "Ay! Zapato del diablo!" This is translated as "Oh no! A shoe on a stick!" The correct translation is "Ow! Shoe of the Devil!" (This could be an intentional goof for humorous purposes.)
