Listening is far and away the key to successful healthcare management. In healthcare there are a number of stakeholders, chief among them the provider. As there is a short supply, we need to make sure we listen. As you listen, focus on the words, tone, demeanor, etc. More often than not, the real issue is neither the one being complained about nor the person it is first addressed to. Allow the person to talk and take notes. After that is done, then take the time to ask clarifying questions and ask the person what they would like done. Everyone wants to be heard and have a voice. Talking because you can isn't always the right thing to do.
