On the crisp morning of November 15, 2024, our Cathedral was filled with parents, students, faculty, church and community members for the National Blue Ribbon Ceremony, and what a beautiful ceremony it was. Our seniors Lillian and Stella were outstanding in their roles as MC and speaker—poised, graceful and intelligent. Our choir once again sang like angels thanks to our music director Theodore Alvanos. We also heard from an array of wonderful speakers, including our School Board Chair Katherine Tsamasiros and Board President Dean Paravalos. We are thankful that both Councilmember Lincoln Rattler and State Senator Andrew S. Gounardes were able to celebrate with us and highlight our wonderful students and community. The event concluded with some beautiful words from Father Evagoras Constantinides and Chancellor Elias Villis. What is captured in the video below really speaks to who we are and what we try to do each and every day. I don't think I've ever been prouder of our school community. We are truly BLESSED!! 🎉 A. Fantis School is Proud to Announce: We are a 2024 National Blue Ribbon School! 🎉 In 2019, we set an ambitious goal to become a National Blue Ribbon School as part of our 5-Year Strategic Plan. While the world faced unprecedented challenges, our students never missed a beat; their academic achievement grew steadily each year. This is a testament to our community's unwavering support, which allowed us to offer full-day, in-person instruction starting in September 2020. For several years, our student achievement ranked among the top in nearly 1,800 public and private schools in New York State. Yet, we recognized the rarity of the Blue Ribbon award, given to fewer than 50 private schools nationwide each year. Today, we proudly celebrate being the first Greek Orthodox school ever to win this prestigious honor! This achievement is built on countless hours of planning, preparation, sacrifice, and resilience. It would not have been possible without the steadfast support of the Board of Trustees of the Saints Constantine and Helen Greek Orthodox Cathedral of Brooklyn, which founded our school over 60 years ago, as well as the A. Fantis School Board. Their leadership and vision have been crucial in upholding our high standards of academic excellence and commitment to Hellenic heritage. I am immensely proud of our entire community—from the governance and teachers to our families and, most importantly, our incredible students. What pleases me most is that we did it the Fantis way. Our students have homework, but not endless hours each night. They take tests, but they also laugh and enjoy their school days. They study hard while engaging in hobbies, sports, and interests beyond textbooks. This award validates our core value of paideia, an educational approach that nurtures the whole child—physically, spiritually, socially, and intellectually. We believe there's no need for excessive homework in preschool or year-round test prep. GREAT TEACHERS can work MAGIC with the proper tools, time, and support. Congratulations once again to everyone on this tremendous achievement! Let’s continue to inspire and empower our students to reach their fullest potential.
