It boosted 🍅 tomato yields by 60% with a modern greenhouse and reinvested profits to establish another nursery. 🌿 New greenhouses are under construction in Vahdat, Tursunzoda, and Ishkoshim, expanding access to quality seedlings and saplings. 🏬 Two agri-shops were opened in Khorugh and Rushon—the first in Badakhshon! 🌾 They have already supplied seeds, fertilizers, and pesticides to around 4,000 farmers. 🚜 German tractors and aggregators, brought to Hisor and Zafarobod, have provided modern farming services across 300 hectares. Read more: https://lnkd.in/g78FxMpy - The Market Driven Rural Development (MDRD) Activity, funded by USAID and led by ACDI/VOCA, introduced biodigester technology to rural communities in Tajikistan, transforming livestock manure into clean energy and organic fertilizer and boosting sustainable rural development. - Biodigester use has increased farm productivity, provided reliable energy, and freed women from time-consuming chores, leading to increased empowerment and improved quality of life. - The technology significantly reduced greenhouse gas emissions, with 1,000 metric tons of CO₂ emissions cut, contributing to Tajikistan’s climate targets and promoting sustainable agricultural practices.

The USAID-funded Market Driven Rural Development Activity (MDRD) has signed a groundbreaking Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Tajikistan Association of E-Commerce Participants to enhance logistics solutions and improve online commerce efficiency with a focus on agribusinesses. This collaboration was announced during Tajikistan’s first-ever E-Commerce Award ceremony in Dushanbe, where business, government, and IT leaders gathered to recognize the country’s top e-commerce innovators. Through this partnership, we're focusing on creating tailored e-commerce solutions for the agricultural sector, empowering farmers with the online tools and resources to grow their businesses and increase efficiency. At the USAID-funded Market Driven Rural Development (MDRD) project, we collaborate with banks and other financial service providers 🏦 in Tajikistan to enhance their reach, connecting with more farmers, rural households, and agricultural businesses across the country. Our partnerships are designed to foster financial alliances 🤝 that drive rural development. For every USD 1 contributed by USAID, our partners in the financial sector have invested USD 2, demonstrating their strong commitment to supporting Tajikistan’s agricultural and rural development. Through these collaborations, we’ve enabled the leasing of greenhouses in Khatlon, the creation of specialized financial applications 📱, loan disbursements 💵 to farmers and rural communities, and the expansion of banking services—including virtual banking 💻—to remote areas. Additionally, MDRD has assessed the feasibility of the crop insurance market in Tajikistan and discussing developing suitable products with private sector partners and the regulator, the National Bank, which is very supportive of this initiative. Notably, agricultural credit currently accounts for approximately 12% of the total credit portfolio in Tajikistan. MDRD plays a crucial role in helping banks and financial institutions expand their services to benefit more farmers, rural households, and agricultural enterprises.
