About us
Amazon is guided by four principles: customer obsession rather than competitor focus, passion for invention, commitment to operational excellence, and long-term thinking. We are driven by the excitement of building technologies, inventing products, and providing services that change lives. We embrace new ways of doing things, make decisions quickly, and are not afraid to fail. We have the scope and capabilities of a large company, and the spirit and heart of a small one. Together, Amazonians research and develop new technologies from Amazon Web Services to Alexa on behalf of our customers: shoppers, sellers, content creators, and developers around the world. Our mission is to be Earth's most customer-centric company. Our actions, goals, projects, programs, and inventions begin and end with the customer top of mind. You'll also hear us say that at Amazon, it's always "Day 1." What do we mean? That our approach remains the same as it was on Amazon's very first day - to make smart, fast decisions, stay nimble, invent, and focus on delighting our customers.

Frugality is one of Amazon’s Leadership Principles, and sometimes, people think it’s only about money. It’s not. It’s about teams maximizing their resources, like time and materials, in addition to cost savings. Our Device Packaging Experience (DPX) team is a great example of this. Recently, DPX redesigned the packaging for Amazon devices, like Echo and Kindle, using more recycled fiber and less ink to improve the circularity of the package and to offer a premium unboxing experience for customers. What’s also cool? The team needed to quickly develop sample boxes for potential suppliers that would either end up recycled or left in a lab. They saw this as an opportunity to create a custom Alexa 10th Amaversary (aka Amazon anniversary) box that employees could take home. Now that’s frugal and fun! Amazon’s roster of electric vehicles is growing—it’s transforming how we deliver to customers worldwide, and can help cut down on tailpipe emissions and noise in the process. Each model is carefully chosen based on the specific needs of different regions and routes across our operations. For example, we use two-, three-, and four-wheel e-cargo bikes to easily navigate deliveries through congested cities, like NYC and London. In India, over 80% of our deliveries use two-wheel e-scooters because of their maneuverability, affordability, easy parking, and ability to zip through urban areas. We’ve also collaborated with manufacturers like Rivian to custom-design delivery vans, going from sketch to roll out in just under three years. And we didn’t forget the trucks. We’re investing in electric light and medium-duty trucks in our transportation network. 1,000+ of these trucks that move packages or deliver large goods, like refrigerators and TVs, will be in India over the next five years. Electric heavy-duty trucks, which haul containers and trailers full of products, are already on the roads in California and Europe. These EVs are just one way we’re working toward our goal of net-zero carbon emissions by 2040. https://amzn.to/3DLPw48

Quantum computing promises to solve problems that today's most powerful computers can't touch. But there's been one huge obstacle: quantum systems are incredibly fragile and prone to errors. Today marks a breakthrough. We just unveiled Ocelot, Amazon Web Services (AWS)'s new quantum chip that takes a completely different approach to this challenge. Our team used a novel design for Ocelot's architecture, building error correction in from the ground up, leveraging special quantum bits (called 'cat qubits'). They naturally resist errors, much like building immunity into the system itself rather than trying to fix errors after they happen. We're the first to successfully put this technology into an integrated microchip that can be manufactured using fabrication processes adopted from the microelectronics industry. That means we’ve reduced the resources needed for error correction by as much as 90%, accelerating our path to practical quantum computing by an estimated 5 years. Think of this like going from unreliable vacuum tubes to dependable transistors in early computing—a fundamental shift that turned possibilities into reality. From discovering new medicines faster, to developing better clean energy solutions, we're accelerating the path to real-world quantum computing. While there's still a lot more work ahead here, I'm super proud of the team's achievement. Check out this peek into our quantum lab where they've been working on Ocelot, and stay tuned for more! https://lnkd.in/gY-C2mSQ
