According to the National Association of Realtors' (NAR) 2024 Profile of Home Buyers and Sellers, the average ages of home buyers hit an all-time high in 2024. The overall age was 56, up from 49 last year. First-time buyer age increased to 38 and repeat buyer age jumped to 61. Convenience to the home buyer’s job has declined incrementally and is now at 34 percent, down from 38 percent last year and down from 52 percent in 2014. Another interesting tidbit is that buyers expected to live in their homes for a median of 15 years, while 25 percent said that they were never moving. Good news from the Labor Department regarding interest rates. According to the monthly consumer price index (CPI) report, inflation in August declined to its lowest level since February 2021. On an annual basis, prices in August rose 2.5 percent, down from a 2.9 percent rate in July and hitting a new three-year low.
