Dr. Isabella Aiona Abbott was a Hawaiian ethnobotanist and phycologist, known as the "First Lady of Limu" for her groundbreaking research on Pacific algae. She became the first Native Hawaiian woman to earn a Ph.D. in science. She was a leading expert on marine plants, particularly seaweed (limu), an essential part of Hawaiian culture and cuisine. Her work advanced marine biology and helped preserve Indigenous knowledge and traditions. Dr. Abbott’s legacy inspires future generations of scientists and environmental stewards. #WomensHistoryMonth #WomenInSTEM
