Gavyn Partlow said something funny during our standup the other day. "No one is using MCP servers seriously". The capabilities of MCP servers are pretty cool. But every MCP client (Cursor, Codeium, etc) supports MAYBE 15% of what MCP servers can do. Most clients support part of tool calling, but this is only helpful if you have less than ~20 clearly defined tools. More than 20, and clients can't fit it all into the context (since there's no easy way to do RAG on your tools). And if the tools are poorly documented, the client doesn't know which ones to use and when. For example, Resend's MCP server can send emails through Cursor. Sending an email is a single endpoint, it's well-defined, and users know what it does. It's just not that useful. The real value of MCP happens when it's connected to objectives that drive actual ROI for the business (e.g. a Resend MCP that can create me a Resend account and go through the entire quickstart automatically).

I'll pay $3K for someone to build an IDE that fully supports MCP over the weekend. Here's what I need: - Agent tool calling chat (like Cursor composer) - Support of MCP features: tool, prompts, resources, & sampling - Support notifications: resources/list_changed, tools/list_changed, prompts/list_changed It's hard to sell enterprises on MCP when all Cursor can really do now is tool calling.
