As reported in STAT News, a group of researchers has filed an antitrust lawsuit against six major academic publishers, alleging they violated federal law by creating an exploitative system built on illegal and anticompetitive practices. The case could have significant implications for how scientific research is published and shared, as well as for the broader academic publishing ecosystem. 🔬Assessing the validity and trustworthiness of research claims is a critical and labor-intensive part of the scientific process. Initiated by COS, the Predicting Replicability Challenge is a public competition that aims to advance the automated assessment of research claims. The challenge invites teams to develop algorithmic approaches that predict the likelihood of claims being successfully replicated.
