On Certified Nurses Day, Chippenham and Johnston-Willis Hospitals and our larger HCA Healthcare network join health organizations worldwide in celebrating nurses who have received specialty, subspecialty and advanced practice certifications. In 2024, more than 6,100 HCA Healthcare-affiliated registered nurses expanded their professional expertise through our Clinical Certification Support Program to earn certifications in a wide-range of specialty areas including Emergency Services (BCEN), Critical Care (AACN), Surgical Services (CCI), Oncology (ONCC), Medical-Surgical (MSNCB), Pediatrics (PNCB) and Orthopedic (ONCB). Thank you to nurses across HCA Healthcare who have committed to a lifetime of learning and advancing their clinical skills to provide exceptional care to our patients. Please join us in celebrating the unwavering commitment and expertise these nursing professionals bring to patients, families and healthcare. #UnlockPossibilities #CertifiedNursesDay

March is #WomensHistoryMonth, and today we celebrate Beth Matish, CEO of Johnston-Willis Hospital. Since taking on the role in 2022, Beth has led exciting projects like the renovation of the mother-infant unit and the addition of a second linear accelerator for cancer care. She looks forward to future updates that will enhance our community impact. Beth also serves as the executive sponsor of the HCA Healthcare Capital Division Women’s Colleague Network, which fosters connections, mentorship, and growth amongst colleagues. With over 20 years at HCA Healthcare, she emphasizes the importance of seeking guidance from female leaders and balancing work and family. Her advice to fellow female leaders is: “Trust yourself, share your voice, and share your opinion. Trust that you bring value.” Thank you, Beth, for being a remarkable leader and an inspiration to us all!

At HCA Healthcare ,our colleagues are truly the heart of what we do. That's why we're excited for you to meet, Robin, an oncology social worker at Johnston-Willis Hospital. A dedicated colleague, Robin has worked for HCA Healthcare for over thirty years. Having lost her right leg above the knee to a soft tissue sarcoma in 2010 after first being diagnosed and treated when she was 17 years old, Robin never let that slow her down. Instead, it’s fueled a lifelong career and calling to serve the cancer community. She co-founded the Hawthorne Cancer Foundation at Johnston-Willis Hospital, which provides support for cancer patients and caregivers throughout central Virginia. Robin facilitates several cancer support groups and hosts CJW’s Annual Cancer Survivorship Day event. Robin received the 2021 HCA Frist Award for her humanitarian efforts and donated $2,500 of awarded funds to The Hawthorne Cancer Foundation. Each year, Robin leads a fundraising walk on the Capital Trail. Not only does she lead it – she truly walks the walk – all 51.7 miles. Over the course of five days, Robin walks the Capital Trail alongside friends, physicians and patients. In its three years, the event has raised nearly $95,000 to help cover patient expenses like transportation and food. She’s even been joined in her efforts by Drs. David Randolph and David Randolph, II, radiation oncologists at Johnston-Willis. “For me it’s personal because when I was diagnosed in 2010, I never would have imagined I would walk 51.7 miles, let alone do it three times. What started from a small $2,500 award has now grown into a signature event that helps ease the burdens faced by local cancer patients,” Robin said. Robin’s lifelong commitment to bettering lives of those impacted by cancer truly embodies the heart of our mission.

According to the American Heart Association, more than 44% of women ages 20 and older are living with some type of cardiovascular disease. That's why we're proud to #GoRedforWomen as champions for women's heart health. HCA Virginia Health System, supported by the HCA Healthcare Foundation, served as “Getting to the Heart of Stroke” sponsor of the Richmond Go Red for Women event held earlier today. Additionally, HCA Virginia was the presenting sponsor of the Tribute Wall and supported the Survivor Gallery. #HeartMonth #HCAHeart

HCA Healthcare was founded with the belief that people are what makes a hospital - not the facility itself. We still believe that to this day, and we take advantage of every chance to thank, recognize, and celebrate the incredible people who are part of the Chippenham & Johnston-Willis Hospitals team. Naturally with today being #RandomActsofKindnessDay we took a moment to do something kind for our colleagues. Whether they work directly serving patients, or support those on the frontline, all of our colleagues play a vital role in caring for our patients and community. Their compassion and dedication are truly the heart of our mission: Above all else, we are committed to the care and improvement of human life. #CareLikeFamily

Johnston-Willis is celebrating another milestone! Today, our Focused Ultrasound team, led by Dr. K. Singh Sahni, treated our 300th patient. This means 300 people no longer fight essential tremors. Each of our 300 patients has had this incisionless, outpatient procedure and has gotten back to living the life they want to. We are thrilled to have been the first hospital in HCA Healthcare and the first in Central Virginia to offer this life-changing treatment and we can't wait to continue serving our community in treating the next 300 (and beyond). #healthiertomorrows #weshowup #carelifefamily
