It’s Social Work Appreciation Month and we can’t begin to express our appreciation for how much this team does for our patients. This extraordinary group works as case managers for patients and the families of patients with psychological and/or behavioral issues while simultaneously working to break the stigma associated with mental health. They understand that it’s okay to not be okay, which makes them an essential part of our compassionate team of caregivers.

Learning is fun at Colleton Medical Center! This week members of our care team participated in pediatric code readiness training to ensure our team remains vigilant and ready to respond to pediatric emergencies. The class addressed many care needs such as recognizing distress in a pediatric patient, heart rhythms, medical equipment, medication administration, individual roles when responding to a code, and much more.

Please join us in congratulating Brittani Evans, RN, for receiving the “Stop the Line” award. Stop-the-line recognition is awarded to team members for pausing the current process and taking steps to verify the accuracy of the situation at hand and the safety of the patient before proceeding. Brittani identified a concern with a patient’s discharge medication list and stopped the discharge process until the issue could be clarified. Thank you, Brittani, for your attention to detail and steadfast commitment to patient safety.

On August 23, 1994, the United States Congress designated December 7 as National Pearl Harbor Remembrance Day to honor and remember the 2,403 service members and civilians who were killed and the 1,178 injured during the attack on Pearl Harbor on December 7, 1941. Today, we pause to remember those who lost their lives and pay tribute to the veterans and survivors.
