✨ We are changing how we operate our Chapters to an Affiliates program! You can lead an Affiliate! In the coming years, the Chapter program will shift to an Affiliate structure, where U.S. states and countries outside the U.S. will operate as affiliates of Dear Asian Youth. Our chapters are currently supported by a team of regional managers and leads. Under the new structure, each affiliate will have its own Executive Board, including an Executive Director. While existing chapters will continue to operate locally, the key change is that they will report directly to the affiliate rather than to regional managers. The Affiliate Structure aims to provide location-specific support to chapters, enable non-U.S.-based chapters to receive non-profit status, and empower executive boards to lead grassroots advocacy and campaigns for local involvement. It will connect DAY chapters with broader social justice coalitions within their state or country while enhancing the long-term sustainability of the chapter program. This is a gradual transition, and we are recruiting Executive Directors to lead the affiliates of multiple US states and Canada. Applications are due March 31st at 11:59 PM. You can apply via: https://lnkd.in/eP_cy-Yp Requirements for being an Executive Director: You must live in the state/country of the affiliate you are applying for Strong awareness regarding Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Vision and understanding of issues affecting the Asian community in the affiliate’s location Prior experience in advocacy-related roles is preferred
About us
Dear Asian Youth is a youth-led, global organization that promotes intersectional activism, solidarity with other marginalized communities, and equality and equity. Through our digital platform, grassroots organizing, and community-based advocacy, we strive to showcase diversity in the Asian community as well as accurate and holistic representation. Dear Asian Youth was founded in May of 2020 by Stephanie Hu, a 16-year-old who wished to create a platform to publish her poetry. It evolved into a blog dedicated to the Asian narrative, then a literary magazine, then a full-fledged organization with over 200 members on the core team. Today, Dear Asian Youth has garnered 110k+ Instagram followers, produced 4 podcast seasons, published 400+ pieces of literature, established 180+ chapters across 18 countries, donated $30,000, and hosted 2 conferences and 30+ webinars. Functioning remotely, the organization today is the product of 300+ passionate volunteers with a shared purpose.

📣 Why should YOU join Dear Asian Youth? Hear from our team members how DAY has helped them grow their skill sets and provide them with new experiences! 🏫 Dhita, International Regional Manager, Chapters: "Being a part of DAY has been a truly incredible experience! I love being in DAY because of the meaningful work we do to inspire positive change and advocate for Asian representation. The connections I’ve made here are truly priceless—everyone is really supportive and encouraging. I’ve also gained valuable skills, from teamwork to leadership, which have helped me grow both personally and professionally. Joining DAY has also improved my English skills, boosting my confidence in communication. It’s been one of the best decisions I’ve ever made, and I encourage everyone to be part of this amazing community!" 🏫 Emma Xiao, South Regional Lead, Chapters: “In 2021, I was bombarded with gruesome photos of attacked Asian bystanders on the news. I joined DAY to uplift the Asian community and fight against bigotry, and I have never looked back. The community and strength that I experience in DAY is evident in every department meeting and in-person event—it is truly transformative. DAY is for anyone who wants action. DAY is for those who want change. DAY is for you.” 🏛️ Khoa Nguyen, Healthcare Policy Associate, Policy "Being involved with DAY has allowed me to connect more with Asian youth who have the same values and goals as me while honing my professional skills! Through the Policy Department, I have had numerous leadership opportunities to help plan events like DAY Day, help out logistically with Dear Asian Careers, and engage in lobbying and policy research. I have also been able to share meals with DAY members and bond while we were executing our work. It has been fulfilling seeing our projects come to fruition while meeting new people and sharing our experiences with each other" 📹 Saman Gurung, Video Creator, Social Media Department: "DAY is, in itself, a beautiful community, and I feel so grateful to work in a space filled with amazing members who bring so much passion and energy. The beating heart of DAY is, of course, its members and their dedication to sharing parts of their community and heritage. It fills you with pride in your identity and belonging to an Asian community. As the video content creator at DAY, I cherish the opportunity to research and deepen my understanding of Asian identity, culture, and advocacy, and to share these stories with our audience.” ‼️ Applications close on February 14th, 2025 at 11:59 PM EST. 🌟January Chapter of the Month!🌟 We’re so excited to feature DAY @ Acton-Boxborough Regional High School as our January Chapter of the Month! DAY @ Acton-Boxborough, based in Massachusetts, is running a campaign to help students who might be struggling with mental health but don’t feel comfortable talking with their parents or know how to ask for help. DAY members wrote a letter from the perspective of a student telling their parents about their mental health concerns, and turned it into a pamphlet. They translated these pamphlets into many different languages (Korean, Chinese, and more) for parents that speak other languages, and have given these pamphlets to their school’s counseling center as a resource. If any student does not feel comfortable talking to their parents about their mental health or asking for support, they can pick up a pamphlet and give it to their parents to help them better understand their situation. These pamphlets are a way for students to open up a conversation about mental health between generations and help combat mental health stigma. 👏🧠💌 Are you a part of a DAY chapter & would like to be featured next month? Fill out this form to let us know what you’ve been up to! ⬇️ https://lnkd.in/gQWpUsWd

✨Welcome DAY’s new Chief Financial Officer, Sara Lam!✨ Sara is a graduate student at NYU pursuing an MPA in Public & Nonprofit Management & Policy with a specialization in Advocacy and Political Action. In addition to her role at DAY, she interns at Vote Run Lead Action, New York City Council, and Her Bold Move. She is also on the board of student organizations Repro Rights and Wagner Advocacy and Political Action and is an Administrative Director of the Constellation Arts Collective. As an undergraduate student at the University of Minnesota - Twin Cities, she was a board member for various organizations, including Asian Student Union and Malaysia Student Association. We had the chance to ask Sara a few questions: Q: What excites you about DAY? A: I'm excited to be part of an organization that is values-driven and is unapologetically pro-Palestinian. It is refreshing to be surrounded by folks my age who are fighting for the same movements. Q: What do you hope to achieve in your role as CFO? A: I hope to find funding to pay everyone that keeps DAY afloat! I'm excited to mentor and provide professional development opportunities to the finance and development associates as well. Q: What is a fun fact about you? A: My fun-fact is that my partner recently released an EP with their band called Hugo's. My vocals harmonize with the lead singer on the last track called Come Back Home. :) Their band name is soft-talk* - check them out on Spotify! Please join us in giving Sara a warm welcome! 🎉

🧠 2025: Year of Asian Mental Health 🧠 DAY has collected a few mental health resources to help kick off the new year. Below are some of our favorites and we hope this year is a healing and productive year for everyone. ➡️ Asian Mental Health Collective (AMHC) – https://www.asianmhc.org/ AMHC brings awareness to mental health whilst taking into consideration cultural sensitivities and believes in “integrating our shared backgrounds with the progressive ideals of emotional well-being and mental health - expressing collectivist ideals while respecting the agency of the individual”. Their wide directory of American and Canadian organisations provide in-person and telehealth options in multiple languages. They support Asian communities with various forms of therapy. ➡️ Asian American Psychological Association (AAPA) – https://aapaonline.org/ Founded by Asian American psychologists and mental health professionals, AAPA has worked to advocate for Asian Americans and for Asian American mental health. AAPA works to lead and guide other organizations on Asian American psychology. In addition to this, AAPA has focuses on many diverse groups, such as those who are LGBTQ+/questioning, multicultural and adopted Asians, and South and Southeast Asians. AAPA also has additional resources specifically for Palestinian and SWANA peoples. Some of these include Silk Route Therapy (which offers services for pay-what-you-can) and Leena (offers low cost therapy focused on BIPOC and Palestinian diaspora). More resources can be found under their “AAPA Statement on Israel/Palestine” ➡️ South Asian Mental Health Initiative & Network – https://samhin.org/ SAMHIN focuses specifically on the South Asian community (India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Nepal, Sri Lanka, Bhutan, and the Maldives), bringing awareness to mental health issues in order to combat the taboo and stigma around the topic, while bringing affordable access to mental health care.
