#DataSecurity is important for #HealthcareIT
🔍 What impact could we have in health and care if our data was safe, secure, and trusted? When HDM spoke with Robert Droppa from DT Research, Inc. at #HIMSS25, he brought a hardware-first perspective to a software-heavy problem: “If you don’t build with security from the start—at the chip, the board, and the boot level—you’re just layering patches on a vulnerable system.” 💡 Trusted data starts with trusted hardware. Droppa explained that DT Research designs and manufactures medical-grade devices from the ground up, including everything from BIOS controls to secure TPM modules and multi-factor authentication. The goal? Ensure that only verified users access healthcare data—and that no unauthorized connections can occur. 💡 Security must be designed—not retrofitted. In healthcare, security is often added after the fact through third-party software layers. But Droppa emphasized that this approach misses deep vulnerabilities—the kind that can’t be solved unless security is baked into the hardware and OS from day one. 💡 Zero Trust must become the norm—not the aspiration. Through technologies like secure boot, CAC/smart card authentication, facial recognition, and isolated power connections, DT Research aligns with zero trust principles—even in high-risk environments like DoD field deployments and hospital systems. 💡 Many in healthcare don’t fully grasp the value—or vulnerability—of their data. Droppa noted that while other industries like retail have learned to assetize and monetize their data, many healthcare leaders still treat it as an IT issue rather than a core business asset. That’s a mistake. Until data is treated like money, it won’t receive the level of protection it deserves. 💡 The medical device supply chain needs more scrutiny. DT Research differentiates itself by maintaining full visibility into every component—down to the glass, chips, and firmware. Many other vendors white-label devices without fully understanding the supply chain risks—creating hidden vulnerabilities that healthcare can’t afford. If we get device-level security, executive awareness, and zero-trust design right, we can stop reacting to breaches and start building systems that are truly resilient from the inside out. 👉 Is healthcare finally ready to adopt hardware-first security thinking—or are we still trusting too much in patchwork software fixes? #HealthDataManagement #ZeroTrust #TrustedData #HealthcareSecurity
