As we celebrate Women’s History Month, we recognize the remarkable women who have shaped history through their courage, resilience, and service. One such woman is Jessica Lynch. In 2003, Jessica, a U.S. Army private, was captured and later rescued in Iraq, becoming the first American POW rescued since World War II. But her journey didn’t end there. After enduring severe injuries, she faced a long road to recovery. “The Fisher House gave my family a place to stay close to me while I healed. That meant everything,” Jessica shared. “Their support made a difference in my recovery, not just physically, but emotionally.” Today, Jessica continues to inspire others through her story, advocating for veterans and wounded warriors. Her journey reminds us that strength isn’t just about the battles we fight, it’s about the resilience we show in rebuilding, the community that lifts us up, and the service that continues beyond the uniform. We have provided three decades of support for service members, veterans, and their families while they receive medical care. 📍With 99 houses across the U.S. and overseas, we have impacted over 440,000 families, providing more than 12 million nights of no-cost lodging. Each Fisher House is built with comfort in mind, featuring private suites, shared kitchens, and welcoming common areas—fostering a sense of community among those who truly understand the sacrifices of military life. When Army Sgt. Anson Curry suffered life-altering brain injuries in combat in 2011, his world and that of his wife Minie changed forever. As Anson faced a long and difficult road to recovery, Minie became not only his wife but also his full-time caregiver, tending to 90 percent of his daily needs while also raising their three children. Through it all, Minie’s unwavering strength and love never faltered. March is Brain Injury Awareness Month, a time to recognize the impact of traumatic brain injuries (TBIs) on our service members and veterans. Since 2000, over 490,000 service members have sustained TBIs, affecting mission readiness and daily life. Even mild TBIs can have significant effects. The Traumatic Brain Injury Center of Excellence (TBICoE) is leading efforts with the theme "Be a Brain Warrior: Protect. Treat. Optimize." This initiative emphasizes the importance of prevention, prompt treatment, and optimization of brain health.
