I’m beyond humbled and excited to share that I’m speaking at Stripe Sessions in San Francisco, taking place May 6–8. ➡️ My session: Buying into giving: Ecommerce strategies for Nonprofits I'll be talking about translating e-commerce tactics into giving strategies, as well as highlighting data from the new Pulse of the Donor report (link in comments). There are only about 20 speakers, so far... just some people like this guy named Mark Zuckerberg, a designer over at Apple (and a Knight of the Britsh Empire) that goes by Sir Jony Ive, Neil Patel, and obviously Stripe co-founder brothers John and Patrick Collison. And then... me? 😳 I'll be there along with Peter Byrnes (CEO and co-founder of Fundraise Up) and Tobes Kelly (SPN Substack founder and nonprofit marketing and fundraising expert) as they try to make me laugh from the audience. This is a conference about payments. Payments are donations. This is as unrelated to nonprofits as electricity and taxes. While it may be beyond the complexity of some nonprofits, it's certainly going to be an eye-opening event for anyone who attends. I have ONE free ticket worth $999 to give away. If this event could be of value to you, let me know. I'll do what I can for as many as possible. I hope to see you there for conversations on all things payments and financial technology. Extra thanks to our Stripe team: Margaret Mullen, Michal Buchler, Christopher Gentibano, Phil Krouse, Carli Visser, and many others!

Your donors don't actually want to cancel. Your systems are making them 🤦♂️ Just discovered something fascinating in the latest Fundraiseup "Pulse of the Donor". 💡 26% of donors who hit "cancel" on their monthly gifts would actually stay - if we just gave them better options. 1. The reality check Your supporter wants to pause for 3 months while they're between jobs. Your system says "cancel or continue." They cancel. 2. The hidden cost That's not just a lost donation. That's your program officer spending hours rebuilding relationships instead of delivering impact. 3. The mindset shift This isn't about donor retention metrics. It's about building systems that match how humans actually behave. When we give donors flexibility, they stick around. When we give staff better tools, they create more impact. The data shows that simply offering options like "pause" or "reduce giving" keeps more donors engaged. It's not just about the donation - it's about giving your team the tools to build better relationships. Anyone else notice how the best relationships are built on flexibility...? Link to the report in the comments ______________________ Hi 👋 I'm Malcolm, founder of Optimi. Most one-time donors don’t plan to give monthly, but...they're much more likely to convert with the right timing and messaging. Fundraise Up’s AI-driven Upsell feature turns one-time gifts into recurring ones by using intelligent prompts at checkout. More recurring donors = reduced donor churn = a sustainable future for your nonprofit. Make it easier for donors to say "yes" to recurring giving. https://hubs.ly/Q03bQGtC0.
