  • What's going on in the #cpgindustry this week? In case you somehow missed it: PepsiCo is officially acquiring poppi for $1.95 billion. The deal includes $300 million of anticipated cash tax benefits, bringing the net purchase price to $1.65 billion. Animal-free dairy company New Culture has received a $5 million investment from pizza chefs and restaurant operators for its animal-free mozzarella. The first restaurant to serve New Culture’s plant-based mozzarella will be Pizzeria Mozza in Los Angeles. GoodSAM, PBC has raised $9 million in Series A funding led by ALIVE Ventures and Desert Bloom. The round brings the company’s total funds to $10.5 million, which it will use to expand its team, launch new product lines, and continue direct trade support for smallholder and indigenous farmers. Maazah has expanded its Middle Eastern inspired sauce portfolio with the launch of lentil dips. The plant-based dips are offered in four varieties including basil jalapeno, lemon tahini, roasted red pepper and turmeric ginger. Quest Nutrition is launching a line of protein milkshakes, featuring 45 grams of protein derived from ultrafiltered milk, 2 grams of sugar, and 4 grams or less of net carbs. Silver Spring Foods, Inc., a subsidiary of Huntsinger Farms Inc, is launching a signature sauce line featuring four flavors: honey chipotle aioli, garlic parmesan aioli, horseradish bistro aioli and hot honey chili sauce. Shaquille O’Neal just announced an investment in Beatbox Beverages, a brand of RTD cocktails known for their high alcohol content. Shaq also launched a new flavor with the brand, Blueberry Lemonade, containing 11.1% alcohol-by-volume.

  • Here's what's up in the #cpgindustry this week: Kate Farms, a medical-grade meal replacement brand, has announced a new line of plant-based Kids Nutrition drinks in Target locations across the country, as well as online at Target.com, marking a major expansion outside of the medical channel and into mainstream retail. Bloom Nutrition – and by extension, Keurig Dr Pepper Inc. have launched Bloom Pop, a shelf-stable prebiotic soda, which will launch at Walmart and other .major retailers nationwide on Labor Day. JonnyPops has unveiled new mini cream pop flavors: birthday surprise minis with cream, Neapolitan minis with cream and unicorn minis with cream. The mini cream pops will be available at Sprouts Farmers Market, Kroger, and Fresh Thyme Market Califia Farms recently debuted multiple new products including Birthday Cake Almond Creamer, Organic Pistachio Almond Creamer, and Pure Black Espresso Blend Cold Brew, available nationwide at Whole Foods Market. Plant-based milk maker MALK Organics is adding two new varieties of unsweetened plant milk to its portfolio: Soy and Coconut. The Coconut milk will launch in Whole Foods Market and Sprouts Farmers Market stores this month, while Soy will have an exclusive rollout in Whole Foods.
