New Legislation Could Restore Immediate R&D Expensing A bipartisan coalition of lawmakers has introduced the “American Innovation and R&D Competitiveness Act of 2025” in the U.S. House of Representatives. The proposed legislation seeks to reverse a key provision of the 2017 Tax Cuts and Jobs Act (TCJA) that required businesses, under Section 174, to amortize research and experimental (R&E) expenses over several years. If passed and signed into law, the bill would reinstate the immediate deductibility of R&E costs. Click below to learn more.
