Chances are, you know somebody who has been treated at a community health center. They are a lifeline to people in rural areas, anyone with a lower income or no insurance, and provide great care. And they’re everywhere! CHCs treat everybody. Think about this: Today, about 8% of American children are living in poverty in “working poor” families that are stretching resources for basic needs like healthcare and food. And that’s only one segment of those relying on community health centers for their primary care. Please contact your congressional reps to support CHCs.

One moment I’m sitting front row listening to some of the most transformational innovators in healthcare at #ViVE2025, the next moment I’m sitting on the floor, holding a wife’s hand, listening as tears stream down her face as she details the horrors of being the carepartner to her husband (barely) living with cancer. Her husband sits inches away, propped in a recliner, his life, dignity, stolen from him. One moment I’m walking the #ViVE2025 exhibit hall floor, where vendor signs proclaim patient engagement, improved outcomes, report patient monitoring, the future of care, while hints of freshly brewed espresso fills the air. The next moment on hold fighting to get immunotherapy approved, sending portal messages demanding molecular testing be ordered, or sitting down to slowly, gently explain to a family in a patient’s hospice room that their loved one is dying, as the sickly sweet smell of death permeates the air. The chasms between my conference experiences and my day to day real world of serving patients is hard to reconcile. I can assure you, without access to technology, AI, and digital health tools to help surface the intelligence we as patients and carepartners need, we can not thrive or survive. Patients and families need AI powered intelligence now more than ever. My talk with Jen Horonjeff, PhD raised the alarm and clearly outlined why including patients and carepartner is solid business strategy with tangible ROIs for all stakeholders. The lack of attendance from health systems and payers was deafening.
