Sales activity slowed across greater Houston last month, according to the February Housing Market Update from the Houston Association of REALTORS®. HAR.com

Single women made up 20% of total homebuyers between 2023 and 2024. That’s compared to just an 8% share for single men, according to a report from the National Association of REALTORS®.

Existing-home sales rose in February, as buyers slowly returned to the market to take advantage of more inventory and variety and despite elevated interest rates, the National Association of REALTORS® (NAR) said. Specifically, sales rose 4.2% from January to a seasonally adjusted annual rate of 4.26 million. Year over year, sales were down 1.2% from 4.33 million in February 2024. U.S. home prices rose annually in January, and they are expected to continue to climb on a national basis this year and reach a new high in March. However, some regions are lagging others, CoreLogic said in its monthly Home Price Insights report.

Housing starts rebounded from their January drop with a strong upside surprise in February. Overall new-home construction, which includes single-family and multifamily units, jumped 11.2% from January to a seasonally adjusted annual rate of 1,563,000 units, the U.S. Census Bureau and the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development said.
