Last year, approximately 42,000 people in Indiana heard some form of the sentence, “You have cancer.” While that is one of the most chilling statements a person can hear, it’s not the hopeless diagnosis it used to be. For that, we can thank researchers, physicians and care teams, as well as the many patients who have participated in clinical trials to advance our knowledge and treatment of cancer. About us
IU Health Foundation leverages the power of philanthropy to support the IU Health vision of making Indiana one of the nation’s healthiest states. When you give to IU Health, you aren’t just making a donation—you’re making All the Difference. Philanthropic support allows IU Health to: - Drive changes that transform the health of all Hoosiers, now and for the future - Ensure that no Hoosiers need to look outside our home state to access the very best care — regardless of how serious or complex the diagnosis - Deliver care outside the walls of our hospitals and clinics to address social impediments to wellness - Ensure that IU Health remains a leader as healthcare evolves and new health challenges come along - Empower IU Health team members to think innovatively, accelerate implementation, and address the challenges that lead to breakthroughs - Honor past and current donor intentions by ensuring that dollars designated for local needs stay in the community.

For Roopa Rao, MD, IU Health Physicians Cardiology treating advanced heart failure is personal. It was Dr. Rao’s experience watching her mother undergo treatment for heart failure that inspired her to go into cardiology. That experience also helps her relate to the challenges patients and families face when navigating heart failure treatment – and the ways philanthropy can help. IU Health Foundation patient assistance funds assist patients and their families in ways that go above and beyond their medical care. We are proud to share that Indiana has it's first mobile lung screening program! Be on the lookout for the 40-foot truck with a CT scanner, as it begins screening eligible high-risk Hoosiers with scheduled stops this month in Blackford, Jay and Bartholomew counties, and will head to Clark, Ohio and Hancock counties in April. The unit will provide approximately 2,000 scans in 2025. The program is part of a partnership between the Indiana University Melvin and Bren Simon Comprehensive Cancer Center and IU Health and was made possible by a gift from the Tom and Julie Wood Family Foundation to the IU Simon Comprehensive Cancer Center and IU Health Foundation and was doubled through matching funds from IU Health.
